Great video Steve. Maybe some wire mesh on the top step would've been a good idea. But love the thorough video 👍🏽

Thank you! I have a much smaller scale repair job involving vertical side of concrete steps. I found your video very informative! I subscribed and look forward to watching more!

A trick I do to make sack concrete finish much easier with more cream on top is sprinkle some straight cement or spec mix just on the surface, it gives plenty of extra cream for a great finish.

Thanks 🙏 that’ll help with this quickcrete crap 😆

I be doing repair on a couple of steps, the bullnose, but they are square.. I was told about using tapcons, and bonding agents or adhesives.....He said I could use top and bond patch. what is your thought on that or should I use something else... Thanks I appreciate it... Those stairs you did came out great, like night and day...

Do you have any advice about what to do before patching with cement if the steps are painted and the paint is also flaking off?
@MrMisterrossie2 жыл бұрын
What exactly is the advantage of using the tapcons here? Why does the concrete need something to grap onto
@GrammarPoliceInvestigations Жыл бұрын
Yes

It's like using mini rebar. Concrete doesn't do a good job of sticking to older concrete, so the adhesive adds some retention and the screws give it a mechanical hold.

mine are not as bad could i use a faster setting concrete and do without a form?

They'll be all out of square and very noticeable.

What do you do aabout the tapcon holes? Fill em with the mortar?
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Yep with the structural mortar 👍 good point, you don’t want water going into those either
@lorirosa22552 жыл бұрын
I think he should've started top to bottom that way the holes would've been filled in on the way down. Although would've took a lil more lumber.
@lorirosa22552 жыл бұрын
The holes will fill with water and ice and will expand making cracks

I redid a few steps in an outdoor pool once and its still holding up 4 years later! Similar set up, had to use foam on the edges to hold the mud in cuz its all curved but honestly it was a piece of cake!

Did you screw the tap one all the way in or did you leave them sticking out a bit?
@pauldeanda49854 ай бұрын
They are suppose to be left out a bit depending on how thing the patch will be.

Also, maybe try to aggregate the concrete to encourage it to fill in all the spaces, like in the front where it was patchy. Skim coating the front will flake off.
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
The adhesive will prevent the flaking. And it’s new concrete now so it should bond well. But yes. Vibrating forms is a good idea. Thanks for watching 👍

So your saying this is durable rather than temporary-cosmetic?
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely I am 👍 obviously best to replace all and order, form & concrete new. But your talking a 6-7x cost
@pauldeanda49854 ай бұрын
It all depends what amount of time you are referring to as durable?
