I’ll always remember taking a Godzilla for a drive My god that would be one of the best handled vehicles I have ever driven. That twin turbo at 6,000 just threw back anyone sitting in the car. It made my typhoon look like a granny’s shopping car

Typhoons stock makes 70-100kw more than the r32 (210kw)....( and double the torque).

Not many Skylines are stock. It handles a lot better than a Typhoon. And the power to weight ratio is about the same. Only power to weight matters. Look at Lotus.

Beautiful footage mate. I have fond memories spending weekends in Bathurst from Dubbo me n the boys taking our shitboxes to Mt Panny for a thrashing! This was in the early 90's before the international upgrade. One of the greatest tracks ever made. It's got everything.

The Sierra Cosworth is a 2liter 4 cilinder single turbo rwd. In Europe later versions came with 4wd. Original 220hp. They could tune it to 600hp! The skyline is a 2,6liter 6cilinder twin turbo I believe. So it was even more powerful. The Cossie,s where extremely fast considering the small engine and fun to drive. Second hand Cossie,s are expensive nowadays, if you could find one........ I've never driven the R32 skyline. I like both cars!

R32s made about 300-310hp back in early days, tunable to well over 1000hp, some these days can get over 2000hp if you change the head, insanity the entire thing from the start was made to dominate Group A just a shame no one else came in to give it a challenge and see how far the tech race could have gotten.

I miss those days. When Australians could be proud that we had world class motor racing. Now all our very talented drivers are stuck in a 2 horse race. Lets bring REAL cars back to Australian Touring Car racing!

They will be world class as of next year. What I was trying to get across is that any race category that favours only 2 manufacturers is clearly behind the times. The more manufacturers, the more development, the more competition the better. Australia needs to forget the out dated Ford vs Holden rubbish and move on. Bring on V8 Supercar 2013 and hopefully by 2014 we will have even more manufacturers involved.

Oh mate, I would never dare suggest the drivers aren't world class. Anyone that can drive a V8 Supercar at that level is totally world class. And it is exciting racing but I just think it would be more exciting with more manufacturers. Imagine if there were 4 cars from 4 manufacturers fighting that hard at the end of Bathurst 2013!

The way the Japanese are treated in motorsport is appaling! Because in the 1990's Japanese vehicles were more reliable than the American and European counterparts and the technology they implemented was incredible. All the world motorsports governing bodies put restrictions on Japan to prevent them from becoming dominant.

So true ! I can only agree with you ! The R32 GTR even get ban from Australian racing for being too much good performances and because of the ATTESA ET-S ! The R32 even set a record in Australia track racing, which no modern car was still capable to beat ! Another example was the Mazda 787B ban from LeMans 24h after It's first win ! All the U.S and europeans brands in this race asked FIA to ban the Rotary engine !

Look at the tuning scene before the early 1990's compared to now. The influence of companies like HKS, Trust, JUN, Veilside and the way they manufacture and operate totally changed tuning. I'm a huge fan of ALL cars no matter where they are from. The days of a car being from one country were over long ago. Eg, New HSV, Italian brakes,Japanese ECU and interface,American supercharger,German suspension,designed by a pom,loads of parts from Korea,stuck together in Australia. Hardly Australian.

You’re absolutely right in that aspect. Look at trucks and how brands of main configuration are popular… Cummins engine, Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmission. Isuzus part in the duramax engine. Everything is shared these days and forms sort of a hybrid of cars which makes development more difficult as setting them apart performance and safety wise is also more difficult.

And look at the shareholders of these companies. BMW, Merc, Ferrari,VW group, etc are hardly 100% European. GM and Ford are no longer 100% American. All of these companies have share holders from Japan, China, Korea etc etc. Nissan, Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, Subaru etc all have shareholders originating in Germany, UK, France, USA etc etc. There is no such thing as an American car or a German car. ALL cars are developed, created and funded by people from all different countries and backgrounds.

Us Vs Them? Mate, all cars made and developed in the last 20 years have been a team effort of many different cultures and countries of origin. The Nissan GTR has as many German and English engineers working on it as Japanese. Some of the leading engineers at AMG and Porsche are of Japanese origin and many of the testing hours are done in China with Chinese engineers.The days of a car being from one country are over. ALL modern cars are multicultural. There is no invasion, its just the reality.

Rwd.........the sierra sapphire cosworth which was the 4dr saloon that followed on from the 2dr..was rwd too..and they also did a 4wd version in the last year's of production..it used viscous diffs.....so really wasn't a sophisticated as the r32...so...even if ford had developed a 4wd sierra cosworth for competition...it probably would have still lost to the skyline...it was a generation ahead of the sierra in every respect..the old saying still applies.....competition improves the breed........
