The Bathurst Rail Museum brings to life the history of the railway between Sydney and Bathurst which was completed in 1876. The Main Western Line was celebrated as a marvel of engineering that opened up trade, transport and communication for people living inland. It also brought a new social and cultural era for those communities living inland.
The model railway was built on a 1:70 scale of the Main Western Line from Tarana to Bathurst, as it was in the 1950's to 1960's.
Ben Chifley was a train driver, who went on to the join the union and later became involved in politics. He then went on to become Australia's 16th Prime Minister from 1945-1949.
