Feels like I'm the only one who likes Part 3 the most. And I'm not one to like sequels very often. The dialogue didn't drop off at all. A lot of very powerful, character building moments. To name a few...the scene where he returns and the cops surround him as he looks on in disappointment/feeling betrayed was very moving. Then the escape from the pit was brilliant as well. It all gets tied up nicely with him being willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for Gotham. We still don't know for sure whether he survived and found love with Selena Kyle. A great conclusion, open to interpretation of the audience. For me the order is 3, 1, 2. I love origin stories and Neeson is my favorite actor, so I had to put it in 2nd place. But the margins are very thin. Just an amazing series from Nolan. I think highly of Pattinson as an actor but I just can't see anyone reaching this level with this franchise again.

It’s only upon rewatch of this scene that I noticed a subtle but brilliant detail. At approx. 0:41-0:56 when Bruce answers Rachel’s question if you pay attention you’ll notice something. Bruce’s entire demeanor changes when alluding to the “Batman”. First he smiles awkwardly before becoming intently serious. This is indicative of Batman’s character, whereas Bruce Wayne is Batman’s mask. Opposed to what we usually see from superheroes in which it’s the opposite. This is incredible acting on the account of Bale and it’s amazing to watch. It’s a great commentary of Bruce’s psyche, as to how he views himself and by an extension his two identities. As the change is immediate, which suggest Bruce’s mentality trumps his humanity. As “Batman” will automatically, almost unwillingly take over Bruce, once he’s doing anything remotely related to it. Really great stuff.
@johnulcer3 жыл бұрын
Nolan captured the entire spirit of Batman and what he stands for and represents with these scenes. The idea that a man is not defined by what he thinks of himself, or what others think of him, but by his actual actions. It's what the Snyder films in particular did not appreciate about Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Katie Holmes is so much better as Rachel
@drlee25 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. People have their opinions but whenever I read anyone say Maggie G was better in TDK, I just don't know what movie they were watching. She was just so dull and lifeless in the role. She didn't even seem like a believable lawyer. Holmes felt both like a real lawyer and she gave Rachel an energy and outward toughness that Maggie G simply lacked.
@joshuasoto66525 жыл бұрын
@@drlee2 I don't think Maggie did a bad job, I just think she was miscast. This isn't her type of role in the first place. Also, I can see why some people don't like Katie Holmes in this movie, but I think she did a great job! She's very charming and sweet and strong. I completely get why Bruce is so attracted to her. Now, Maggie in some interviews said that she loved what Katie did with the role, but that she wanted Rachel to be "a real woman", and I seriously don't think she succeeded. I don't see anywhere in The Dark Knight why both Bruce and Harvey are so attracted to her. All being said, that's why I prefer Katie Holmes in the role. I am still very upset to date that she didn't reprise her role. I would have enjoyed so much more The Dark Knight with Katie Holmes in it.

@@practiceyourart BULLSHIT Maggie was the WORST thing about The Dark Knight. She kept it from being a perfect movie.
@ThatisnotHair4 жыл бұрын
@@practiceyourart Maggie is better actress, but bales chemistry with Katie was far better. They made cute couple. That is why no one felt shit when Rachel died in dark knight.

I know it's just a movie but when Bruce sees Rachel for the first time and looks at her face while she's talking you can tell he was so smitten by her. His smile was so big and bright. It's a shame they couldn't be together.

Absolute masterpiece of expressing emotions by these two actors!!! Fabulous, just fabulous! And I must say, that what I really love is the way they looked at each other. They look at each other as two super best friends, people who know each other very well and really 'connect'. I love that Katie created that 'perfect best friend' character, instead of being seductress, femme fatale or damsel in distress. The whole acting is very natural and heart warming. I also love Christan's way of managing "switching" between his all 3 identities. We see The Playboy, Real Bruce, but there's also a hint of Batman there : "I am more" ( which reminds of the place scene with Bruce and Alfred). And using the same words to show the complexity of human choices and behaviours, wow... : "It is not who you are / I am underneath..." . It's a great lesson to never judge the book by its cover.

Remember, you only get 1 life so make it count. Live, love and laugh; to the fullest. When action is required, just do it. No matter what anyone says, it is your life. You live for yourself. So unless you’re a puppet you cannot be controlled or manipulated in any way. You were given a voice, use it. Stand up for yourself and your neighbor. No matter the cost because at the end of the day, “it’s what you do that defines you.”

I just realized scarecrow helped solidify the legend of the bat. Without this incident batman really is a guy in a suit. However this crazy hallucentated version of him probably traumatized and etched the batman into Gotham criminals and civilians alike.

Her last scene with Bruce bascially amounted to her telling him to commit suicide by engaging Falcone. *7 years later and worldwide belief that he was dead until a few days ago.* Rachel sees Bruce. No hug. No glad you're ok. Just speechifying. That isn't Katie Holmes' fault.
@JeremyCuddles3 жыл бұрын
Christian Bale is such a great actor in that restaurant scene. Bruce wants to tell Rachel that all of the antics is just an act so people don't suspect that Bruce Wayne is Batman. And finally when he has a moment alone with her he can finally let her know in a very special way that he isn't an uncaring playboy. That he wants to do good.

Rewatching this scene, it's fascinating to see how well they capture Bruce Wayne's mindset. Inside, I am Batman. "Bruce Wayne" is the facade

This is why Christian Bale is my favorite live action Batman. His Batman and Bruce Wayne feel like two different characters entirely. He really sells the dual identity of the character.

Interesting choice to give Batman a "Mary Jane". All these years later I'm still not sure it was a good one. But Nolan certainly makes it work. That guy can make anything work

You can see how hurt Bruce is to lie to Rachel as he wants to tell her but ultimately he has to sacrifice having a normal life and the things he wants in order to save Gotham! Christopher Nolan really understood how to write Bruce and Batman better than anyone else, and I don’t think anyone will ever top it either, it’s why the dark knight trilogy is the best ever!

These two scenes brilliantly showcase how key the duality is to Batman. The delineation between the two personas is what motivated both of them to pursue their goals. Bale is the best live-action Bat for a reason, and this reason is right here.

Bruce feeling so helpless when he tries to explain, but gets schooled. One of the most vulnerable moments of Bruce. The other one is when Alfred tries to convince Bruce going against Bane and speaks about the letter Rachel wrote, that she chose Harvey. Some things never get fixed, they remain broken.
