Small correction about what Dylan is saying at around 26:00; the skyhook is actually a real thing used by the CIA in the 60's and 70's , and it actually works. Fun fact you can see it used at the end of Thunderball (Chris Nolan is a huge James Bond fan so it most likely is an homage to that)

Watched this movie a couple days ago in preparation for this episode, and man, this is such a good movie. Stuff I didn't quite get as a kid I understood better, but I'm still a bit torn on how Harvey does such a quick turn. I guess it's because Rachel is dead, but like, why was he called Two-Face as a guy in school? What makes him want vengeance on people, yet still give them a chance with the coin? I think had he survived, we could have better explored that in this universe. And I've never thought about the detonators being used for their own boats. That's actually pretty great because it proves just how messed up the people of Gotham would be had they decided to push the buttons; no, you deserve death for wishing it upon someone else, and even if one boat blows up, the people that heard the rules of the game would hate the survivors. Brilliant. I don't know why it wasn't obvious either because if Joke intentionally switches the locations of Rachel and Harvey, intentionally switches the hostages in the building, then of course he's switched the rules of the game with the boats. And as for Joker's motivations for anything he does in the movie, I mean, it's kind of said. He has no motivation other than it's just something for him to do. I think he's being genuine with Harvey in the hospital. He's a guy that makes plans, but he doesn't have a real end goal, so then he doesn't really have a plan, the whole dog chasing a car analogy. Except for just chaos and anarchy, which doesn't need to be methodical. He'll make a plan that will run for a week, and then he'll change it up, and then he'll do it again.

I agree with Sal, Ben Affleck is quite obviously not a comic accurate Batman and he’s probably tied with Clooney and Kilmer for worst Batman portrayal. But Ben Affleck’s Batman that kills and brands ppl isn’t a comic accurate portrayal at all
@ScreenHeroes2 жыл бұрын
@@gohanson27 my argument was that Ben Affleck isn’t a comic accurate Batman. I don’t think bale is comic accurate either bc of his killing not killing loophole among other reasons. I think Pattinson is the most comic accurate BATMAN but aside from appearance I think Affleck isn’t comic accurate at all. His reliance on guns and other gun like weapons is uncharacteristic, killing and branding is outdated at best, in JL Wheddon Cut he was a laughing stock almost the comic relief, and is the Snyder cut he seemed very unsettled and jittery taking away from the calm, calculated, and confident comic accurate demeanor. Pattinson is less calculated and calm in his portrayal but I give him a pass bc he was suppose to be an year 2 or 3 Batman so relatively new and inexperienced but he showed he was a capable detective and hand to hand fighter not to mention good with tech. Batfleck was suppose to be the calm, older, confident, and calculated Batman shaped by years of fighting crime but like I said he wasn’t that in either JL and I would say he was TRYING to be that in BVS
@ScreenHeroes2 жыл бұрын
@@gohanson27 I agree with the Battison take but saying Bafleck was a good Batman outside of looks I whole heartedly disagree with that. Batfleck wasn’t shown to be technologically or tactically smart at, all relying on Alfred to do a lot of the tech work and relying on guns and lasers in JL which isn’t Batman. In JL he was less calm and collected like batman is suppose to be portrayed as at that age In the comics. The idea of gathering the JL was Lex Luther’s not even Batman. He wasn’t a detective at all, didn’t solve a single thing he was just reacting. In JL he was the comic relief for example think of the scene where he runs to meet up with the rest of the JL out of breath.
@ScreenHeroes2 жыл бұрын
@@gohanson27 I’ll give u that Affleck did find out kryptonite was Superman’s weakness, but he didn’t come up with the plan in JL ZS cut, it was cyborg and resurrecting Superman was also cyborg. Batman’s only “plan” was to assemble the JL which really wasn’t his plan it was Luthor’s. Affleck used guns and laser guns throughout the JL movie against parademons taking away from his fighting capability, even the nightmare future was him with a AR. I don’t think Bale is comic accurate at all, I’d say Bale is just 007 in a Batman suit he’s not really Batman. Afflecks effects definitely screamed Batman but that’s not Affleck doing the moves it’s a computer (CGI). But besides BVS Batman never came up with a plan or showed any real “Batman” feats. Sure u might be able to say sending flash back in time is his plan but we never saw it come into reality. Alfred was shown to be operating, maintaining, and building all the equipment like the night crawler scene. Batfleck was more like a less intense and less extreme punisher in a Batman suit
@ScreenHeroes2 жыл бұрын
@@gohanson27 going based on the past 3 batmen I think we’ve seen a tactcian, a detective, and a soldier. Bale was very tactical, he rigged or brought ab the circumstances to blow up the train and kill Ras, he used the phone tech thing against the joker and planned the capture of joker when Harvey was being transported, and he single-handedly planned the uprising and disposal of the nuke against Bane. Pattinson was a detective through and through he showed some but not a huge amount of tactical skills like when he injected venom, had the flight suit, and insurrected the iceberg lounge. Affleck was a soldier who went in to fight a war in both versions of JL, in BVS he found out ab the Kryptonite but other than that he did no planning of his own. JL (Wheddon and Snyder) cyborg came up with the plan to defeat stephennwolf and resurrect Superman, Luthor came up with the plan to gather the JL (he had the files), Alfred operated the tech, but Batman lead the team even though cyborg did the tactical work.

I don't understand how "You can't rank Batman movies" is any more valid than any other ranking. In the end it is all just opinion. Trying to make an objective list of what is the best, that might be difficult to impossible if there is no agreeable measurement (ie critics rate it this, it gets this many positive comments on twitter, we had a survey, etc)... but just ranking your favorites people do it all the time! I mean otherwise, you can't rank marvel movies because all those films have different genres too, what about ranking Bond or Godzilla films, depending on what you like things can change as well, same with ranking Superman movies, and I feel like people have zero problem ranking those. I just don't understand that point, if you don't like the Dark Knight then you don't like it, if you want to irrationally hate the Dark Knight then just irrationally hate it, lol, but the whole idea of "maybe these just can't be ranked" feels like trying to pull me into your dilemma! Because I don't know that I want to agree that Ben Affleck had the most comic accurate Batman, I mean, obviously that goes into "which comics" because there are plenty of Silver Aged comics where Adam West seems the most comic book accurate!

Bale, Oldman, Caine, Freeman are good also. The film is fantastic but drops off for me in the last 3rd. The boats scene at the end is pretty cheesy and could have been handled better. The biggest flaw is introducing Two Face at the end and killing him fairly quickly. The film should have ended with Dent becoming Two Face and saving him as a villain for the 3rd film (I have a lot more issues with The Dark Knight Rises). 🦇🤡

I would suggest you use the list (link below) Since you mentioned certain Batman movies I would suggest start from the Flashpoint movie and then just do all the new 52 animated movies in release order. Because even a lot of movies like Justice League Dark, Batman is still one of the main characters. I'm only mentioning it since in some of the movies you said you were going to do. There are contexts you won't have if you haven't watched the others since it sort of acts like their animated version of the MCU. Not to mention it will give you more content, then you can just pick and choose which of the stand alone movies you would want to view like Supeman Red Son or Superman Unbound. You can use this list it has both release and continuity order for the ones set after the Flashpoint movie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Universe_Animated_Original_Movies#Continuities Edit: For the record, Batman unlimited is TERRIBLE I watched 15 minutes and it is really aimed at the kids who watch justice league action and not how BTAS was. If you are going to watch any of the movies that is not official DC universe animated original watch Batman VS TMNT. It has a fun charm to it, being less dark than their other movies but is enjoyable for what it's trying to be.

90% of what the joker does involves impossible luck and was not well written, it's all lighting, costumes, atmosphere and performance that blow this movie out of the water. Great point by Dylan, if you wear a cape and a batmask and don't have a gun. it's not realistic.

So... 90% of what the Joker does plays out like most of his shenanigans in the comics? 🧐 And yes, I know he plans things, but the bulk of those plans always hinge upon people making the exact decisions, down to the letter, that he needs them to in order for every domino to fall

@@famousthaneus9810 not really, it's way more extreme and way more noticeable in movie format.
