My interpretation of the ending is that once Bruce Wayne and the Batman were revealed as a singular entity the criminals of Gotham had a definitive target. Bruce Wayne, his associates, and the civilians were all fair game to destroy him; the persona of Batman now had a man behind his mask. No longer exists the monster in your dreams like the joker saw in Origins, it's just a rich boy in a costume. Because of this Bruce knew that both him and the Batman needed to die to protect his friends and family and so he could be reborn as a new persona ("It's the only way to protect them."). A hero without a schedule, a hero without the man behind it destroying the illusion of fear. So I think Bruce isn't dead at all in the Arkhamverse but he killed himself to take on a new mantle fulltime, especially since the events of Arkham Knight showed that criminals were becoming too much for him to handle. What we see at the ending of the game is basically that new persona he took up, a hero that is more BAT than a MAN in criminals eyes and can dedicate more time to fighting crime.

My theory is that Bruce fakes his death to make everyone think Batman is dead. Batman's ultimate weapon was the fear he inspired in his enemies, and if they know he's just Bruce Wayne then that same fear won't be there. Now that they all think Batman is dead, Bruce can devote himself entirely to protecting Gotham and can still inspire fear in his enemies, as they believe him to be dead. What's scarier than Batman? Batman back from the dead.

It's interesting that Gotham's most infamous crimelords built their entire existence around Batman, their motivation only to lure him out and defeat him. That what they feared most wasn't incarceration, Gotham Asylum or just being caught and punished. They feared Batman. After the Knightfall Protocol, I imagine that Gotham returned to normal. I never ever do side missions in batman games and then I finally decide to do them all, not even knowing about knightfall protocol and skipping riddler trophies of course. Then near the end, when everything is at 100% (finished the game at 96& ._.) it says...well you know, confront the riddler. I do that and he goes back in that hole like a coward and tells me to collect his dumb trophies. Really made me mad :L 100% everything (except riddler) and it wouldn't even let me access knightfall overall still a great game.

Really? I found all his races pretty easy tbh but everyone struggles with something. For me it's the riddler trophies...Seriously 243 trophies is a stupid amount you have to collect just to get a 5 minute knight fall ending. I did everything 100% before even knowing that you needed to do all those to get the ending to the game, (you know, except for those damned 243 riddles) even freed cat woman because the races were really super fun to me and then after getting scarecrow Brucie is all like "Yo Alfred, homeboy wut up? We need to activate knightfall" and then it showed everything hitting 100% and then it said I needed to get the riddler :( Really made me sad.seeing as the riddler is really the only real boss in this game, or at least the only fun boss fight because you don't use a damn tank for him. Ah well...at least I got some fun DLC to play, contemplating on whether or not I should buy the DLC pack seeing as it will have 6 months of fun DLC and other characters like batgirl to play as, also you get to play as riddler I've heard but that might be bogus. (would love to play as joker haha that one bit was real fun when batman was injected with fear.)

Okay people seriously, aren't you listening to the dialogues at all ? Batman *clearly* states Gotham needs something harsher and tougher than Batman so he activates the Knightfall protocol. While there are many fan theories including that Batman actualy died - I obv label them all nonsense like c'mon, you just have to follow the dialogue in this game. Bruce had to "die" so only Batman would live. They faked their deaths. Bruce and Alfred simply went into hiding, knowing Batman he had prepped for such an event from top to bottom so he perfectly knew what he was doing. In their new prob even more up to date cave or hideout, they continue fighting crime, only with more drastic methods like fear toxin etc. Only now, Batman doesn't have to concern himself with his real identiy anymore. Maybe it ain't even Bruce, maybe it's Azrael who returned from his crusade against the order and now was given a chance to redeem himself or maybe it's Tim. Either way maybe Bruce has become just the mentor who oversees everything while the new Batman kicks ass, like in Batman Beyond.

I mean yea he does deserve hell for what he’s done but joker was a pretty funny character how in Arkham he would pop up in random places and talk to Bruce n stuff it was pretty nice.

@@unrealpenguino4877 but I wasn't talking about the character but what the character did in his fictional world to other characters. He killed too many people, enjoyed destroying lives, he did just too many bad things, and because of that the "the character is fun" argument is not really valid.
