Join Clay Newcomb on a five-year quest to harvest a giant Oklahoma black bear. Using a Redneck Hunting Blind was key component of this black bear hunt. Hunting over bait offers the ability to be highly selective, and is a big win for bear conservation. The Oklahoma black bear weighed 550-pounds. The video expounds on how adult male bears are indicator animals pointing towards a vibrant and thriving bear population, and how they're the best animals to take out of a population.

No actually this exactly what gives hunters a bad name. Only one reason you should hunt, to put food on the table. PREDATORS MANGE THEIR OWN POPULATION JUST FINE WITHOUT HUMAN INTERFERENCE. This is strictly blood lust. A true trophy is taking a photo and letting the animal live on. Y’all are pathetic inbred imbeciles.

I think the only reason that there's bias against hunters is just the sheer lack of information and understanding from critics. Most hunters I've seen/watched their channels are more in touch with and more respectful of nature than most. How can you not? If you're going toe-to-toe with a big bear and you're on his level, how can you not form a respect for the creature? It's a level of intimacy with food sources that I think a lot of people don't have or understand anymore. I don't hunt, but I'm convinced now that I want to start purchasing meat from hunters, specifically meat that is from invasive species/animal was killed for conservation reasons. It's better quality too.

But predators manage their own population and people don’t eat bear. Strictly ‘trophy hunt’. True hunters hunt for one reason, to put food on the table. You’re not on ‘his level’ safely tucked up in a tree stand or with a gun. Be a man, stalk and kill with a bow and arrow. Not sit and bait. No animal baits, it’s an unnatural tactic. And sport? Sport is two teams or individuals in an even match where nothing dies. Learn something before being a clown. Bears aren’t naturally outta their way aggressive. If you want a real trophy, do all this work for a photo. If you’re worthy of living on this earth, you will survive and can do it if you’re a man. If you’re a coward idiot, you will be dispatched accordingly.

How far is Wilburton from Black Fork Mountain wilderness area. I hunt the Arkansas end of that Mountain. I find enormous amounts of bear sign at a great pond on top of that Mountain but once the baiting season starts all bear sign on my pond disappear. It's a four hour hike to get there and being government land there us no baiting, but on Rich Mountain just south there are bait barrels everywhere on private property. Also no vehicles that includes bicycles. If I ever take one there I'll have to process the whole thing there , scrape and salt the hide render the lard ,jerk all the meat with smoke teepees then bag it up and tore it out. It will probably mean 30 hrs of hard work but when fall comes around I'll be up for it . If life ain't hard its boring. Lol .None of my ways are intended to be inflammatory towards you or anyone else. They are just who I am . I've switched over from bows to spears . That has added some excitement to everything. It does get my old heart to pumping. I'll be 70 this fall. Told the misses that when I go I want to still be wearing my boots. Lol

You might could also try hunting them when Dove season begins. I was out on Dove Season and had one around the size of Batman charge me. He turned away less than 30 feet from me...he was downwind of me but still came behind me. Day was overcast and had high winds. I think the bear have learned when shotguns are constantly going off, to go find potential food.

I can't even imagine what a 550 pounder would look like. For all the non hunters out there, bear meat has become a family favorite for us. I have served it to family, friends and neighbors, and the approval has been one hundred percent.

Once again a great video. Biggest I can find round my area is 350 ish. Although state record 600 lb bear was taken 2 years ago not 20 miles away. I was wondering what your thoughts on blinds are. Do you think that a regular platform stand at 20’ would be as effective at scent control? I’ve been close to many bears on the ground but nothing the size of that bear on the video. Problem I have with those large box style stands is that they are not very portable. I hunt everywhere so mobility is key. Thanks again for the great video. Keep up the great work.

Redbone Bandit getting up high can really help with scent control, and in the right situation that might be all you need. However, the full scent containment of this blind is hard to beat. If I had been 20 feet up I don’t think I could have beat this bears nose.

I never thought in a million years there would be awesome color phase bears in New Mexico let alone 500-plus pound bears in Oklahoma of all places. I've got a few nice 300 + pound bears in the Catskill Mountains in New York. We have a lot of bears around here we get a lot of transplant bears from New Jersey the landfill State LOL. PA with their three-day season they're shooting 800 + pound bear. But those boys in PA take that really seriously as you do. My bucket list includes at least one black bear over 500 I've never seen but I've don't other people to shoot 500-plus pound Bears locally I've come close to 400 but I've never broken 400. I' m not a hunter. If you hunt down the big males, do you protect the females and their cubs in a way? Because the big males are a danger to the cubs?Is that right? The male grizzly bears kill and eat cubs and also kill females, I ' ve seen that. If thats also true for black bears your sport makes sense.

TO W RD : I don't understand what you're saying. We can hunt black bears in California. Can't have a firearm with you if you're bow hunting, that's all. What's the problem ? No dogs ? It's called fair chase. Learn how to hunt. Just complaining for the sake of complaining or thinking you're cool criticizing California. At least if you want to do it, say something that makes sense and is true. What do you mean that "we're subject to game laws in California" ? In what states or provinces aren't hunters subject to game laws ????? Every single, every province has them in the U.S. Canada and Mexico. Game laws govern all hunting in Africa, Europe and Asia. What's your complaint based on exactly ? Bringing up the fact California has game laws as part of your criticism doesn't bode well with a lot of people including ALL ethical law abiding hunters in and outside of California. What are you advocating ? Poaching ? Killing indiscriminately ? Try that in another state and see how well you're received. Have you been caught poaching or are you in trouble with the DFG for a violation ? California has plenty of game and is very well regulated like ALL other states are. California is a trend setter, what starts in California is soon followed in other states and then the rest of the world. You can look and ask around, you'll see how progressive a state it is. You don't like what you see. If you can, vote !! I'll stick to what's related to hunting; the ban on lead is a good thing, many other states are considering it. California was the first well over twenty years ago to ban lead for shooting waterfowl. From near disappearing numbers, waterfowl made a huge comeback. Companies like Barnes are thriving because they make great very innovative products. Every single state has seasons and every single state requires a qualified (meaning not in violation of any law) hunter or fisherman to buy licenses and tags, those in violation cannot enter the field armed. Any person not following game laws may have his or license suspended (that's the nice part, not mentioning fines and years in jail). You think it's only California ? Try to shoot a grizzly in Montana. You'll be in the poor house and in the big house in very short order for a long time... It is NOT a free for all. Try poaching an elk or a bighorn sheep in Colorado and please tell us how much fun it was to get caught. This video is about a legal, successful bear hunt from a tree stand in Oklahoma. What part of it don't you understand ? Let me give you some stats about California. 1) Taken as a country, excluding the rest of the U.S, it ranks 6th to 8th in GNP in the world, always top TEN ! The GNP of Southern California excluding Imperial county is superior to that of Australia. The GNP of Los Angeles county alone is superior to that of Mexico. None other of the larger states, including Texas and New-York remotely comes close to number 30... If the place intimidates you, look elsewhere. Can't stand people who shoot their mouths off without knowing what they're talking about or because they have a problem they want to rationalize but don't say what the REAL PROBLEM is. No other regulatory body in any other state will accept your views unless you talk to like minded people who have a comprehension problem or who think and live outside the law and you admire them for it, then you may find an audience and feel right at home. If your post was written out of pure ignorance and the desire to "fit in" with people out of state, you did yourself a huge disservice because you exposed yourself coming across very differently to anyone who reads your complaint about the fact that there actually are game laws in place in California. Not a single state in the Union tolerates poachers. Perhaps game laws are too difficult for you to decipher or you are frustrated because you are no longer allowed to hunt in California. Both are bad but the later is far worse. "Game laws in California, Such a shame". You're the real shame. Your two words aren't doing you any good. Laws aren't for the feeble. They are for the good of all. If you don't like them and you can vote, then vote. Don't complain about the existence of game laws, the vast majority of them is the expression of a civilized society preventing the indiscriminate taking of natural resources.

@@paulhomsy2751 baiting is illegal in california. Mountain lion hunting illegal in california. All emotionally based laws put in place by liberal voters. I work love and hunt CA. Its a shame what's been done to the state. And dogs aremt hunting? In who's standard? Yours? Hunting with hounds is what we bred dogs for thousands of years ago. Take your head out of your ass, you know nothing of CA hunting laws.

Paul Homsy I appreciate your passion but it seems a little misplaced. I like to battle with those misguided snowflakes however I’m not sure this guy qualifies. This guy knows what a lot of us do about liberal hunting laws. I live we’re ridiculous liberal hunting laws are constantly enacted . I don’t think his problem is with hunting. Hunting with dogs is the very reason we have dogs in the first place. It’s why they were domesticated. Not looking for a war, just seems like you may have gone a little overboard. Just my opinion. If you hunt then good luck shoot the big one.
