I use set screws or a nail clipped down to size that are about the same diameter. Just drill a hole with my mini drill and seat the nail or set screws. The old dawnbreaker videos show how I use set screws

I would suggest trying to get a refund. Those knees can be tricky. I use set screws to repair joints. If you look for my Batman Dawnbreaker videos you can see what I mean

I usually add a bit of Painter tape or a small bit of electrical tape around the ball. Or you can build up a layer of super glue or clear finger nail polish to add friction
