I feel like the bond between Alfred and Bruce is the strongest thing in the entire DC universe. Alfred and Bruce are just perfectly paired. Alfred is Bruce's only real family, and the Batfamily is Alfred's family. Yes other characters have strong family bonds, but Alfred and Bruce, or Alfred at Batman technically, is just on a whole other level.

It is sincerely one of the most underrated aspects to all comic book breakdowns overlooked time and time again. I personally think that is why Batman is so persevering thru out the ages of comic books. Batman is easily the "king" of the DC universe, let us be real. Superman maybe the strongest, but he isn't the most popular amongst DC fans. The only other "coupling" of men in comics that comes close, is Xavier and Wolverine/Cyclops (depends on the era, early on it was Cyclops, then later as Wolverine gained popularity in his own comic - * way before* the movies- and eventually took over the X-men). But later it was mainly Xavier and Wolverine, they wrote off Scott Summers into a love story and self-identity issues, as Wolverine exited that love triangle - weird times - .... Anyways I digress massively. Alfred and Bruce are the best " Father-Son" duo ever. With the elders knowledge helping lead the younger virile ones aim, to bring about *actual* justice. Because that was one of the other aspects that is seriously overlooked, Alfred insight and advice, and how much it overflows, or as acknowledge even outside of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Alfred is a cornerstone to DC , and to the Comic universe as a whole really. He is ONE of the most important characters in all of comic book history.
@AA-ut9wz
@AA-ut9wz Ай бұрын
Absolutely. Alfred and Bruce’s bond truly defines the heart of Batman’s story, making Alfred not just a father figure but Bruce’s real family. Unlike any other pairing in comics, their relationship isn’t just about guidance-it’s about unconditional love, grounding Bruce in a world of darkness and isolation. Alfred’s wisdom and devotion shape every victory, every choice, and every moral line Batman holds. Their connection is the emotional core of the DC universe, giving Bruce a heart beneath the armor and showing us that even the most driven heroes need someone who simply loves them unconditionally. Alfred’s influence transforms Bruce’s pain into a mission for justice, not vengeance, making their relationship the greatest father-son bond in comics. It’s this love that elevates Batman beyond just strength or courage. It’s what makes him whole. And that last scene where he takes Bruce in his arms… he is literally his son, and that love they let us see melts anyone. Alfred would do anything for his son, he is so loving and delicate after what he just did to Superman. This duo gives us a human connection, something real to hold onto in a world of masks and shadows. Even Batman’s heart is held together by love. I love them too much! DC would never be the same without them.

@@AlexanderAddams THANKS FOR SAYING IT. In most fights where Batman manages to put down superman, people always say its bc Batman is trained and Superman isn't used to trained fighting, just blind hitting but its not true. Even if Superman isn't shown to be Luthor level intelligent, in his own comics he's smart & resourceful and he's supposed to be faster than a speeding bullet. That is, no matter how good Batman's (or any other non speed fighter's technique) is, he should be able to dodge with that speed. Superman is just written to be an OP character, which is why he gets nerfed in in inexplicable way to make his opponents look better. My favorite part was the one where Batman is mad that Superman is locking up criminals in his private prison without due process, so he responds by kidnapping Hawkgirl and locking up Superman's allies in his private prison without due process. He stood by and let Manhunter almost kill Diana and conveniently neglected to mention this part to his allies, making it sound like Superman killed Manhunter for no reason. And worst of all, he let Harley on his team without batting an eyelid, like she didn't murder eleven million people. He's got a lot to say to Damian but he never says a single word to Harley. If anyone deserves to be locked up for the rest of their life, it's her. Yeah, Batman's a hypocrite. He'll rail about slippery slopes and justifications right up until he's the one doing it. Then all of a sudden it's perfectly excusable because _he's_ the one doing it.

There was something I took a note of when Is looking at the last panel. Alfred said "There is nothing In here worth saving" as it showed Superman trying to pick himself up. This shows that even Alfred has Completely given up on Superman If the beating didn't make it clear. He would have killed him and probably would have if it weren't for Bruce's no killing code.
@MrOrcshaman
@MrOrcshaman Жыл бұрын
I feel something goes deeper then even that. Batman's code has been not to kill anyone, that he can contain and rehabilitate criminals, it's one of his greatest virtues and flaws, as someone like the joker cam never be redeemed, and in that sense its that code that let the joker keep living after his crimes that let him eventually perform the act that caused Clark to kill Lois. But in Alfred's case, who's been there all this time with Batman/Bruce as he upheld his no kill code, while Bruce believed everyone can be saved from themselves, Alfred saying "there's nothing worth saving here", is Alfred forgoing Bruce's beliefs, kinda showing how Alfred isn't flawed like Bruce, he doesn't have the inbuilt mental hangup about not killing. He could have killed superman, with the same force Doomsday did, he just decided Clark was beyond even trying to redeem. Let's not forget too, the joker was a psychopath and held no bonds with anyone, but superman made bonds with his fellow superheroes. He killed Green Arrow, someone who was his friend. That ultimately makes this superman more of a monster then the joker, because what monster kills someone they once cared for?
@michaelmurray8134
@michaelmurray8134 Жыл бұрын
@@MrOrcshaman Well that was kind of the point I was making. Alfred follows Bruce's no kill rule not because he agrees with it but out of respect for Bruce. But you're also right that it's his biggest flaw, and what made it worst was he stopped others from killing joker snd even saved him from dying even though he had no real obligation too and criticized others for killing Regardless for their reasons. He even had the audacity to try and reprimand Clark for killing Joker even after what he did and didn't even try to comfort Clark after what happened. No one can argue that Clark Was justified in killing him and no judge would dare trial him for it, but that should have been where it ended. Also the fact of him being a bigger monster then Joker is debatable. Sure Joker had no Meaningful bonds while Superman did, he mostly killed in his fits of rage. Joker kills just for kicks he believed life had no meaning. So personally I think someone who kills with no emotion behind It are definitely bigger monsters.

Injustice is interesting because of how emotional it is. Just about every scene involving superman, you can find some way that it could all end. Some way that he could see the light and realize how far he's strayed. This was one of those moments, had Alfred not been so emotionally wounded. Superman had that moment of clarity. Repulsed by his own actions, torturing his best friend after murdering one of his closest friends. The calm voice of a common but wise man could have been the voice of reason and disappointment he needed to hear. Instead he got one of the worst beatings in the series. And you know what? It makes sense. All of these awful decisions are what happens when emotions rule your life. That's the point of injustice, in a way.

You are assuming that Alfred was wrong. I don't think he was. I think Alfred beat Supes arse because he realized nothing would get through to him. That Supes was so far gone in his own desire for self destruction he could and would justify anything. Maybe the only reason to keep him alive was so he could be brought to justice, not put down by vengeance.

No matter how rational and no matter how logical. At the end of the day we all make our decisions based off of emotion. The best we can do is temper those emotions with reason. Would super have realized his tyranny was wrong? The answer was he already knew it was, but he never had the strength to stop himself. It's the same as in the justice league when he breaks a device meant to provide power to the city of Metropolis that Lex Luther made, and his only reason is because Lex made it. He watches his son descend ever deeper into darkness stopping just short of becoming the monsters hes fighting and he still cant help him so he just does the best he can. He watches his sons best friend turn on him and turn the world against him. Watches that dictator take his sons own son from him and murder his adoptive son. The Injustice series was epic. It was a slippery slope Clark started down, justifying heinous acts as being for the greater good. Eventually he became the very thing he once despised. What was surprising was how many of the former justice league followed him down this dark path. In the end, it was only fear that kept many at his side.

Honestly, It's believable. Alfred is the most principled character in all of DC and if you somehow make him an enemy...he WILL come out on top.

Alfred Pennyworth is no mere Butler. The Wayne family have enough money to pay for the best & their "butler" is so much more than an ordinary butler

No one fucks with Alfred without balls of steel or a death wish. Batman believes in carrying out Justice through Vigilantism. Alfred believes in carrying out Justice through two things, Smith and Wesson.

Although listed as redacted, it's heavily implied that Alfred is a former SAS commando.

You've done this story justice. I've never really liked this story & was disappointed when I first saw it because I was looking forward to it. Alfred never ate the pill, he just took it. May god have mercy on Superman’s soul if Alfred actually ate it.
