The Normies dive into the backstory of Harley Quinn and how she started working with The Joker in this critically acclaimed episode of Batman: TAS! We review and discuss the episode after the reaction!
This is the final Batman: The Animated Series reaction from the Normies. Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to move on from Batman as a reaction series. We love the show and will continue to enjoy it on our own. Thanks everyone who watched these reactions with us!

Her best comic depiction for me is from her series "Harleen", that dwelves into the Mad Love story from her point view, in a much more compelling way. His FREAKISHLY HIGH pain tolerance is proof of that. How many times have we thought Joker died in Batman: The Animated Series, but somehow came back like nothing ever happened? Too many to count. Guess his popularity granted him Plot Armor, keeping him alive throughout the entirety of the DCAU, until Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker, that is *if we are going by the complicated timeline that is the entire DCAU, from Batman TAS, Superman TAS, JL, JL Unlimited, to Batman Beyond* .

I beleive it's mostly the same with some parts additional points like how as a teen Harley got a gymnastic scholarship to Gotham State University to do Psychology, where she didn't really study for her degre(Ex. Got a D- on her thesis and slept with her lecturer to get an A+ on it.) and hinting that she wanted to work with more well known villains to make money off helping/talking with them.

BTAS and TNBA did show this Joker’s origin (or allude) to it at least. Here and in a later TNBA episode they say or allude that a gangster fell into chemicals at the Ace chemicals plant while fighting Batman, which makes sense since the show got a lot of inspiration for the Burton movies. The show has always been good at showing their relationship as abusive even before they animated “Mad Love”, “Harley & Ivy” is probably the one that is the most clear with it before this one. The worst thing about this is that the TNBA Joker is just way less expressive than any version before or after, in the original comic he still looked like in BTAS which made for some amazing panels. Also there’s some more blood when the police find Harley in the alley, the ending is super sad yet somehow so many people still don’t seem to get the point and look at Joker and Harley as some romance that should be emulated. Do watch “Mask of the Phantasm” it’s still one of the best Batman movies.

(Riddler) The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne (Hugo Strange) Harley and Ivy (Harley and Ivy's relationship) Dreams in Darkness (Batman is sent to Arkham) Robin's Reckoning (Dick Grayson's origin, two-parter) The Man Who Killed Batman (One of the funniest episodes) Perchance to Dream (One of the best episodes) Almost Got 'Im (Ensemble of villains) Heart of Steel (Two-parter that introduces Barbara Gordon) I Am the Night (One of Kevin Conroy's best performances) Off Balance (Introduces Talia and Ra's al Ghul) Trial (Ensemble of villains) Demon's Quest (Ra's al Ghul, two-parter) Shadow of the Bat (Introduces Batgirl) Mudslide (Sequel to Feat of Clay) Bane (Intros Bane) A Bullet for Bullock (Harvey Bullock character development) House and Garden (Poison Ivy) Baby Doll (Intros Baby Doll) Harley's Holiday (Harley Quinn) Deep Freeze (Sequel to Heart of Ice) Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero (Movie, sequel to Deep Freeze, and unofficial finale to the OG show) The New Batman Adventures Sins of the Father (Tim Drake origin, no Jason Todd in this universe, introduces new character and art designs) Never Fear (New Scarecrow design) Joker's Millions (New Joker design) Growing Pains (Great episode) Holiday Knights (Ensemble of villains) Old Wounds (One of the best episodes from the revamp) Legends of the Dark Knight (Awesome homage to Bat's history) Girl's Night Out (Batgirl episode)

The reason the order of the episodes is different depending on where you watch them is because there are actually two legitimate orders: the broadcast order, the order the network aired the episodes (which on at least one occasion split a two-part episode up with like six other episodes between them, for some reason) and the production order, which is the order that was used for streaming services and the DVDs, I believe. The production order makes a bit more sense in terms of continuity, but no matter which order you watch them in, the Batman series isn't particularly big on that. So it doesn't really make much difference.

If you’re going DC Animated movies. I HIGHLY suggest Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. A great film, Mark Hammil’s arguably best performance. And a good introduction for Batman Beyond as a whole in my humble opinion.

-Every incarnation of Joker tells a different backstory because he either doesnt know it or finds it funny to lie about his history to keep people guessing. Most of the time he uses it to manipulate people - Joker once told Harley his backstory but it was actually Poison Ivys history and backstory. That was the one that made her fall for him and his lies, which is funny because Poison Ivy is the one Harley ends up with in the end. seeing as her backstory is what shaped her as she grew up. -Harley athletic ability has been shown in later incarnations that she was a former Gymnast good enough to get the Gold medal in the Olympics.(mirroring Robin/Nightwing) -Harleys strength, durability, and resistance to pain was amped up later when you find out her best friend Poison Ivy created a Super Soldier formula like Winter Soldiers(Marvel) and gave it to her, to make sure she can survive he escapades with Joker. Ivy didn't want to see her best friend die in Jokers schemes and trusted Batman and Co to treat her fairly -Jokers unpredictability and crazyness is equal to and counters the genius level intelects of DC. It sounds ridiculous because it is. But its how it is and kind of interesting in a way -The chemical Joker fell in also gives him another layer of skin that can help heal his body faster and near complete resistance to pain along with impact resistance. Allowing him to exceed the bodies Limiters

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but the Joker's origin was also shown in the animated movie, THE KILLING JOKE, based on the famous Alan Moore, Brian Bollard graphic novel, using Mark Hamil and Kevin Conrod resprising their famous roles. Also, check out BATMAN BEYOND, RETURN OF THE JOKER when you get a chance.

people fear seeing extremes of evil conduct in the media because they subconciously want to believe that by ignoring it or refusing to acept this behaviors exist, that can make them go away...but they are all lying to themselves..the harsh reality is that within everyone exists by default the potential for good and evil..but is not watching the behavior itself that which motives one to do it..or not do it..what really causes this, is peoples refusal to truly reflect on what life is and the consecuenses one's own actions or lack there off,.. can cause on everyone and everything around us,..people must learn this to be a reality..too truly understand, that just because you see an evil behavior on tv or real life...ultimately..is our own free will that which makes us decide to emulate that behavior..or not..but this is too dificult for most people---because-- that means that if we do acept this,..then....we are the ones truly responsible for our own actions..not tv or friends nor family..you decide if you chose to do good or evil.

Fun fact, this episode is adapted from a cannon comics derived from the show, they adapted it for *season 4* but it should actually take place around *season 1/2* , before Harley takes small independence from the Joker with Poison Ivy's help and when Dick was still Robin and Superman didn't exist yet, that's why the rhythm of Harley coming back and forth between the Joker and Ivy is weird :) The Joker changes design a lot, my favorite is the final they made in *Batman Beyond/Justice League* , it's a perfect mix between the 2 older design ^^

I'd like doing reactions for select episodes. I'll recommend episodes (and also for other DC series, if you'd like), in case you'd want to do it that way: Mad as a Hatter Perchance to Dream Robin's Reckoning: Part 1 Robin's Reckoning: Part 2 Almost Got 'Im The Man Who Killed Batman Harley and Ivy Shadow of the Bat: Part 1 Shadow of the Bat: Part 2 The Demon's Quest: Part 1 The Demon's Quest: Part 2 Trial Harlequinade Second Chance Harley's Holiday Deep Freeze MOVIE: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm MOVIE: Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero MOVIE: The Batman Superman Movie: World's Finest-This will be listed as episodes for Superman The Animated Series under the episode as just the titles: World's Finest Parts 1, 2 and 3. Sins of the father Growing Pains Old Wounds CROSSOVER: Girls' Night Out Beware the Creeper Judgment Day MOVIE: Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman-Was released, I think, around the time Justice League was on. So, for dramatic effect could be watched later than this. MOVIE: Batman Beyond The Movie-This is also listed as the first 2 episodes of the Batman Beyond animated series. The episodes are titled: Rebirth Parts 1 & 2. Just as as an advisement for context for the Batman Beyond story, episodes: Meltdown Shriek Dead Man's Hand Ascension Out Of The Past The Call Part 1 The Call Part 2 MOVIE: Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker

In the first "Harley Quinn"comic(taking place during the "No Mans Land"arc), Joker tries to kill Harley because he starts having some feelings for her and they confuse him and annoy him. Harley tries to get revenge and kill him, but the second Joker asks if it would help if he said he were sorry, Harley immediately forgives him. I know that they've tried to change Harley over the years, but I much prefer Joker and Harley as a duo. Maybe that sounds wrong....

I feel like Emancipation of Harley Quinn hit poorly for two reasons: 1.) We didn't have the appropriate context from Suicide Squad. 2.) From a writing perspective, she CAN'T emancipate herself. It's like a TV show where there is sexual tension and then once the two characters get together the show isn't interesting any more. Her victimhood is actually important to the character and to the drama. Everybody WANTS her to to break free, but it's because she can't that her character is tragic (and ultimately, compelling). I'm always down for more Batman reactions... but even if you never pick up the show again, you've GOT to watch Mask of the Phantasm. Best Batman movie ever, hands down.

"The last reaction" It's been a while, and later on you did Mask of the Phantasm, but yeah... so many good episodes that make for good reactions are buried in the later parts of the series, as shown with Mad Love. And in all this branch of the DC Animated Universe (Superman, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman Beyond...). Hope you eventually react to some of those (if not entire series, some selected episodes... or for a Patreon; as once mentioned, the DC animated universe is quite solid, and, in the case of these series, self contained). "The new design" Sadly (to an extent) the original designs proved to take a lot of time to animate, that's why they went for this simplified more "cartoonish" style. But seems it paid off to an extent: easier animation allowed to explore some stories that would later influence the canon, some of them quite dark for the average cartoon show. "Mad Love" As mentioned, it's interesting how Harley Quinn, a character imagined to be only a cartoon sidekick gained such prominence she became one of the most beloved characters in all the Batman universe. This episode not only gives more context to her story... it IS her official origin story: it was virtually adapted (panel to panel, word for word) from the animated series to the comics, something that was quite uncommon for the time (characters jumped from the comics to other media, not the other way around). Harley Quinn wouldn't become a part of the Batman canon, though until the 2000's during the "No Man's Land" storyline, and (from then on), history was set: Harley stayed a favorite of the public so much she got this partial redemption arc to overcome her relationship with the Joker and move on to other despicable/antiheroic things... and better relationships. And yeah! Return/Pick up the DC Animated Universe XD. Fun fact: not all the DC Animated films exist in the same continuity, most of the films actually exist in the continuity of Young Justice, rather than these animated series or are stand alone films (even when they use the voices of Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy).
