This remix of Batman’s origin is one of my favorites. I know it doesn’t quite work but I keep making Zero Year and Year One work together in a hybrid tandem. Both origins do so much for different aspects of Bruce’s character.

I had read the story but seeing you narrating it really gave it new life and refreshed my memory, I had forgotten a bit about it but now that I watched the video I realized this story was a way bigger expiration to "the batmen" movie than I first thought

Personally one of my favourites it kinda gets overshadowed by the court of owls in terms of synders work but I just always liked this cause it’s one of the best riddler stories and for being a part of batmans rogues for so long he doesn’t have enough good stories

I was hoping this was Batman Year Zero. I was always curious what triggered the transformation from 10 year old kid, to YEARS LATER putting on a suit and fighting crime. When did the whole "bat" thing become conceptualized into his identity. What changed for him to only take action on that day? The only time I ever seen this addressed is Beware the Batman where he used to dress in a skii mask but the problem was people weren't afraid of him because he wasn't a symbol. With this explanation, he got that idea FROM the thugs essentially. Gotham kinda showed young bruce but they did a cop-out time-skip so that pretty much doesn't count since they skipped the transformation and just showed him as batman years later.

As much fun as this may have been, I’ll consider this a “What If” origin. Especially the part where Batman restarts the city with his heart because he had electroshock therapy, and is resistant to electricity. It’s Year One all the way, and most comic writers are with me on that one. Edit: Oh my lord, I FORGOT that's how they decided to do the "Yes, father, I shall become a Bat"/Bat through the window scene. With a holographic cube-thing turning the study into a holographic cave as holographic bats fly out of the window. That's just so...so...Y'know what? Mama said if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

The helmet was the only thing comic accurate about the character from the original continuity. He is supposed to look stupid because when the original story was told, it was meant to be sloppy, thrown together for an average joe to wear to make batman see the guy as a super villain so the hench men could escape. Hood WAS supposed to be a victim, but the writer said nah.

Looking back at this, alot of this comic feels forced and poorly written. "I saw a bat" instantly means "I must become a bat" with zero subtext. How it BUCHERED jokers origin. How Riddler had no build-up to become a super villain. And then there are the little things. Like how Bruce doesn't like Gordan. Or how they handcuff his ankle to the bed so he can't get up, only for the writer to forget he did that not even a panel later where he just "walks away" without even picking the lock. I'm sorry, but with fresh eyes, this is just a sloppy comic with a rushed or impatient writer.

@@Hadeks_Marow i feel like the riddler was built up; it was just built up in the back ground. which makes sense with, where that character was at in the beginning of the story. Philip said it as much that, he will always be in the back ground. the i become the bat idea was the city calling to him, to become a bat; when a real bat lands on his father's bust, it was a subtle way of punctuating that idea: that his father approves. the not picking the lock thing, was him using his strength to break free: there was a panel that showed it. and sure bruce and gordon have an uneasy alliance in the beginning, but over time they start to work together.
