Mexicans have a lot of day dramas, but does that not mean American sitcoms do not belong to the same general genre? To me the difference between an anime and animated show lies in the general style of delivery and story. Just like a Mexican drama tends to have a specific style, and an American sitcom has its own specific style. But if a Mexican film company made a show following the formula of an American sitcom, then I would group it more in that category, and visa versa. Anime was invented by the Japanese, but in any creative field, different artists and cultures draw from each other for inspiration, and that does not mean it is "fake".
