Battery Box Update for the Tactacam Reveal Trail Cameras. Did they last?

Last year I made a video showing how I make my battery boxes for my trail cameras. Some of you were wondering how they held up and did they make it through a whole season utilizing Tactacam Reveals. Here is an update video on just that.

how strong is your signal in some of these areas? i hunt some of the same type of cover and my signal is kinda poor sometimes, and it does kill batteries fairly quick. so i built a box this year to see how much longer i can get photos without draining a battery. also i added a couple harbor freight solar panels with regulator. the lack of sun under the dark canopy will hender the charge process. but it wont hurt either, by the way thanx for sharing the video ..it really got me going on this.

My signals have actually improved in the past year and not sure why. Other than that, the batteries have all held up well.

So out of curiosity, any idea why the tactacam reveal isn’t reflecting the battery life? I followed the steps in your build, but I can’t find anything in tactacam forums on why they aren’t reading/reflecting battery levels.

The camera reflects the battery life in the app and on the camera itself. However, it only reflects the external battery first.

When you use box for power. Do you still leave AA within the camera(as backup), or do you remove the AA since using battery box

It all depends on the location. On public land I leave AAs in.

No, you can run the camera without the internal AA’s.

Yes, I do via Tactacams solar panels.

How do you make the hme 12v auxiliary battery box work with tactacam reveal cameras cause cord on hme doesn't plug into reveal cameras?

I don’t use a HME box. I make my own and my chord is ordered from Herd 360.

@@kylebudden234Last year it lasted from August till Febuary. That’s around 20 pictures a day and camera on video from October thru November.

Was your Tactacam battery % accurate on the app for your cameras running on the battery boxes? I ran mine on just the external battery and it still showed 100% when it died..

@@bowhunter96 When using an external battery source for your camera, it will read 100%. If something goes wrong with that external power source, your camera's battery life will change and start running off of the internal battery source.

In your original video you showed that you were going to set your camera with the box and the camera full of AA lithium batteries. When you picked your cameras up where the batteries in the boxes still full of charge or had the camera switched from external power to the AA’s?

The battery box was at 25 percent, so it never touched the lithium batteries. Matter of fact, all of my battery boxes from last year never touched the Lithiums and the great part about lithiums is that you don’t have to worry about them splitting open and they have a 20 year shelf life so you can just keep them in the camera as a backup for years assuming the battery box never went dead.

@@oakironoutdoors2436 Wow that is outstanding. I built 8 boxes for this year and put the 12AH battery in with lithiums in the cameras. Now my cameras are on field edges, feeders, and mineral sites so they get alot of pics but I am very interested to see how long they will last. Great video and thanks for posting the post season results as well.

You can but that's an entirely new process.

Where did you get your cable from? And did you just cut other end of cable

The cable came from Herd 360. I did have to cut the terminal ends off to pull the cord thru and then reattach new terminals.

No. It should run with a direct hook up from battery box to the camera. At least for Stealth Cam and Tactacam.

Everyones so concerned about a seal around the cord... The battery is sealed. A few drops of water won't hurt a thing. I just run a hole through the edge where the lid closes up around the cord and I still have yet to have any water in any of my boxes. No concern about a seal.

Would there be any advantage using a 12ah battery instead of a 7ah?
