I charge my batteries in a large ceramic flower pot and have a plastic bag filled with 5 pounds of sand about 8 inches above the flower pot. The theory is that the heat from a burning battery will melt the plastic bag and fill the flower pot with sand.

Question, why put charging LiPo batteries in a cinder block?? I want to see a test of it. How will that filter out the toxic fumes given off by the battery if it is overcharged, and how is that going to prevent it from exploding and catching fire to the rest of the stuff you have? Why not get the Bat-Safe? I want to see a side by side comparison to the Bat-Safe versus your set up, and see which one will prevent a house fire, and which one will explode and cause a fire. Are you up for the challenge???

How does the ammo can stand up to the pressure, fire, explosion of a battery? I'm curious about it cause that looks like a good size battery case/holder for me to keep in my small one bedroom apartment. BTW, I like the brick idea. Real cool invention.

Strictly based on my own observation, I think it would hold up well. If you watch a video of a battery "exploding", it is more that one end of the foil pops open, and then a flame shoots out of that opening. So I think that an ammo can will hold up well to that level of pressure.

Good set up, a bit of clutter though. I am a bit of a pack rat in my studio and having had a lipo fire 4500mah 3s getting around the fire to safely remove it outdoors is tricky so I store my batts when charging and not in pack ready to go right below stove top so I can turn on exhaust fan if things go south. I think the smoke is toxic and a house will fill fast. I can't believe no idiots have crashed into a house yet and started a fire considering how many fly over houses in cities.

Thanks! I'm a super pack rat. My dream is to have a shop like the mythbusters where one wall is reserved for boxes of old junk. Good idea about storing near an exhaust fan.

I need to create a battery bunker too. I like your recycling DIY approach. I'm in the East Bay too, Mark. Do you fly in the East Bay too?

Thanks! I'm near Berkeley, so I fly a lot at the Berkeley Marina. How about you?

What would you recommend if you live in a apartment without a garden or garage?
@marhar29 жыл бұрын
Gatz22 Two things: (1) always be present while your batteries are charging. Never leave them unattended. (2) Get a "LiPo Bag" and put the batteries in there while charging. They're good for storage too.

@@marhar2 So, what happens when the bags fail? Why not store it in the Bat-safe?
