I believe that your fridge does need 12 volts to run the electronics in the fridge even if running on propane.

Toby, you are correct, 12 volt power is required to run the accessories in the fridge. That would be a light or circulating fan if equipped. The fridge itself once ignited will run and cool without electrical hookups of any kind as long as it has a supply of propane. The older fridges you could light the pilot with a match, or a piezo igniter which requires no power, or some may have a AA battery. The more modern fridges have electronic igniters and that requires battery power. It doesn't matter if you have and old or newer model propane fridge, once the pilot light is lit, you can safely turn off all 12 volt power and it will continue to cool until you run out of propane.
