I never knew that. And as a 73 yr old Grandma in my day I've changed coils when those were on firewall before coil packs spark plug wires set points batteries. I would just climb up on the motor and go to work. Lol to old now. Always love new information. ❤

It’s not that you’re too old now, it’s more like if you climbed up on an engine today you’d have a thousand dollars in broken plastic parts. 👍

In your day batteries weren’t mounted inside the passenger cabin so this battery design didn’t need to exist.

This only applies to batteries that are installed inside the vehicle's interior, causing the possibility of gasses entering the compartment. Vent tube takes care of that.

👍 Everything he said in the videos true and correct. I know about the externally vented batteries because I've been a tech for a long time. But most people I've ever met in a parts store or even my co-workers had no clue. And many of the rear mounted batteries I've seen don't even have the vent hooked up when I first see it.

Yes, i learned this when i changed the battery on my ‘05 BMW X5…it’s located in the rear hatch and off gasses into the car. Most american cars, the battery is located under the hood on the exterior of the vehicle, so off gassing isnt an issue…

I knew this because I've been buying a similar battery from Walmart for several replacements and I read everything that comes with the battery, especially the warranty terms. My car requires a vent so I wanted to make sure the aftermarket one was compatible.

Yup, definitely do not want off gassing anywhere near the battery. One spark and boom! Ask me how I know. lol Had a old truck and the battery connection was loose, drove a 4 hour trip and stopped to get something to eat, went in to crank it and it sparked and blew the battery up. I am sure with these batteries actually located in the vehicle that is even more of a concern. LOL

My dad had a new battery put in his Mercedes at a Mercedes dealership. He came home and told me what he had gotten done and so I checked on the work. Not only was the red plastic cover for the positive post just lying next to the battery, the vent tube was not reinstalled nor was the other vent hole plugged up. I mentioned this to him and he went and read the dealership the riot act about why did he pay $200 for them to install a battery (on top of the battery price) only for them to not only install it correctly!

The new battery will have vent ports on either side Vented batteries are designed with two vent ports, one on each end of the battery. The battery is delivered with one port plugged and the other open. This design allows the installer to... Move the red plug to the unused vent port Mount the battery in the proper orientation and use either side to connect the battery vent tube simply by removing the plug and placing the plug on the opposite side. Do no open the opposite vent cap.

Personally Id dump any standard battery for an AGM ASAP.... They leak, corrode the battery tray and cables... An AGM battery is alot cheaper then dealing with the other issues caused by vented battery acids.

This battery has features most do not. -Nice battery though, will look for these features on next battery buy. I always liked Cadillacs with the battery inside the car. = They last longer for sure that way. 9-10yrs typical. The trunk is safer though.
