This is the first video in the 1982 Kawasaki GPz550 Cafe rebuild. This bike is getting a few new things to bring the bike to the next level. We're starting off by building a new battery tray for this bike, as the old one has seen a lot of rework and revision over the years and it's time to start fresh. The tray is being built to hold the Shorai lithium battery, the license plate bracket, and a combination start solenoid and main fuse unit. We fold up a piece of aluminum to serve as the base and weld on a few additional pieces to hold everything together.
We follow that up with a simple aluminum bracket to hold the gauge in place above the triple tree at an angle that will make for easy viewing while in a riding position.
And I'm on a road trip! We're driving back from Dallas, Texas to New York and seeing a few sights along the way. I'm testing to see how I might be able to edit videos on the road with a minimum of gear.
