That has to be one of the healthiest 612's I've heard!

Man, this makes it two for one...first you film a Thunderbolt I tried and failed to catch, then you visit a 612 I distinctly remember photographing. Small world. Sounds very healthy too, awesome catch!

This is what a siren should sound like. This one had a pretty close wipeout a few years back, an EF-1 tornado touched down about 1/8 of a mile from this siren. 😳

I hope that this siren doesn't get replaced any time soon

Only reason it'd be likely to get replaced is if it fails so horrifically that it can't be economically repaired, as apparently happened with the SD-10 at Verona School a few years back. Battle Creek's policy--hell, Calhoun County's policy--seems to be to maintain the old ones rather than replace them, until they break so badly they can't really be fixed. Thus the rather eclectic mix of Thunderbolts, SD-10s, RSH-10, EOWS 612s, and ATI HPSS-16Rs in town, not to mention the other assorted CD-era relics scattered around the county.

rdfox76 the Verona sd10 was struck by lightning, which is why the new thunder beam in that location had a lightning rod on the pole, as well as a large antenna.

I can here a ATI Surprisingly in the background and possibly a T-bolt aswell

Battle Creek started buying ATIs when they started expanding their network in the 90s. Rotating ones, at that--and amazingly, they seem to be the one customer who *hasn't* had trouble with them.

Is this the only working 612 here in Michigan?
@niks_crazy_world6 жыл бұрын
Pokémon Lover no, another one in the same city. Brighton has an inactive one, Siren1000T has a controller from one, and Warbash owns the old Sheldon Park Alternate Wail Siren.

I spoke to soon there’s a 612 in port Huron and a 812 with no controls next a 2001-SRN and modulator

What year was this guy installed?
@Spencerlovestrains257 жыл бұрын
Not sure, probably in the 80's.

1983 or 1984. I was a student at Riverside when it was installed! (I remember the day they were going to bring it online. We were told that there would be a test of the newly-installed siren interrupting class, and we expected to get our ears blown off with the standard 60 seconds Alert-60 seconds off-60 seconds Attack. Imagine our surprise when they did Westminster Chimes, and the teacher said it was the siren test... we all thought it was broken!)
