Gameplay footage by BuffMaister: • Shin Megami Tensei 4 A...
This is a cover of Battle F8 - To Become God’s Enemy by Ryota Kozuka from Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse. I have remade the track in the style of Shoji Meguro's rock battle tracks around the PS2 era of SMT games, as if Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse released on the PS2 in the mid to late 2000s.
This is a commission from Zephhyr who is currently working on the “Insaniax” mod for Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD. He is creating a custom boss battle against YHVH from SMT IV Apocalypse and has had this track made for its background music. Check it out here!: • I'm adding my favourit...

I’ve also had plenty of requests to cover this track in Shoji Meguro PS2 style, and it was certainly quite the challenge. As great as Battle F8 is, there are hardly any stylistic choices that match with Meguro’s style, making a simple instrument conversion not an option. This was maybe the toughest one to cover yet, so I’ll break down what I did. There are a tone of crazy Kozuka synths in this piece which aren’t very Meguro, even in his DDS2 days, so I had to either replace them with more simplistic leads, or change the instrument altogether. This meant replacing the huge pads with strings, like Meguro used in final boss tracks like Hari Hara ~The Second Movement~, Divine Identity and Battle for Everyone’s Souls. Some others were replaced with lead guitar or piano (I have found this EXS24 piano patch which was used in Persona 4 and likely Raidou 1). Overall it took a lot of work and tinkering, but I hope it sounds as if you are fighting YHVH on the PS2.
Of course, Meguro's signature guitar tone is always the most important element of these remixes, for a more detailed breakdown of how I recreated it, I'd advise checking out the description for the cover of An Honour Befitting That Name I made here: • An Honor Befitting Tha...
I remember this fight kicking my arse back when I played Apocalypse years ago, and hearing this track again brought back some of those great(?) memories. I really should play this again.
I hope I’ve done this track justice. A lot of changes had to be made to stay stylistically accurate, but I tried to keep the identity of the song intact as much as possible.
Regardless, I hope you enjoy the cover!
