You can hit “Q” to select all units on the map. You can also double click a unit to select all units of its type on screen. Right clicking a Hero units abilities will allow them to auto-use them as they see fit.

I barely survived the final mission and almost lost Minas Tirith cuz I was young and dumb. Watched Ruddevil play it and even he suffered at the Gate even with upgraded troops. Pippin died first as usual. Of course the lower part of Mordor is a slog but fun as there are 8 medium bases occupied by the enemy and with free orc warriors you better bring Ithilen Rangers and a couple tower guards. You should watch Ruuds playthrough. It's pretty interesting stuff.

There is actually an updated mod for this game that makes it way harder and adds more heroes. Just search up the 2.22 update for Battle for Middle Earth you'll find a launcher you can download with both the vanilla version and the updated mod version. Super worth it.

I like the idea where any game based of of an existing story lets you both help the bad guys win for an Evil Ending, or make the Good Ending even sweeter and with fewer casualties if you work for it.

Tbf they are innocent. Orcs are evil man. All the ents wanted was to live in the woods and tend to their forests. But no, Saruman just decided he wanted to cut down the forest. Even though he was once their friends. As Treebeard said while witnessing the devastation "many of these trees were my friends".

One thing you might not have known, even when you were on the Gondor part of the campaign you can select your Rohan armies and do missions with them

14:24 lorewise, during The Scouring of The Shire, a large and effective portion of the hobbit forces were archers. I believe it was also one or more hobbit archers who felled Wormtongue directly after he murdered Saruman, marking the final casualty and the end of the conflict. So yes, they are ranged as heck!

Saving Gandolf and Boromir was my first real introduction to the idea that stories could change and the butterfly effect of events. Boromir surviving would just sidestep most of the issues with Gondor in 'Return of the King.'

I always remember as a kid giving all the free xp i could to Gandalf and never legolas he'd level up alone getting kills and i'd always try and get more kills with good use of gandalf's abilities trying to out do legolas's bow

One of my favorite games of all time. When i was a kid I played countless hours on BFME2 on the 360, the one after this one. It wasn't until a couple years ago when i was finally able to get the expansion Rise of the Witch King. Its like a dream, being able to experience new things in a game i played so much of after years.

Wish they sold it somewhere digitally - I’ve actually just been spending the last few years re-gathering up ways of playing old games from physical disks. There are usually a bunch of them on eBay still pretty cheap if you have the hardware - mileage may vary from old game to old game. LGR in particular I recommend for figuring out how to get some of them running. This one in particular was pretty easy to get running, but others like The Movies, I need two PCs and a capture card to get filming for here 😅

Hey man, if you’ll be playing any other games in the series I’d like to suggest giving the age of the ring mod a try. It’s trully something else, custom voice lines, incredible models new factions and visual effects. It contains overhaul of the campaign including (as of now) complete remakes of fellowship and two towers with the return of the king in active development.
