Battle of Antietam: The Final Attack | In the Footsteps of the 9th New York Infantry

The 9th New York Infantry, also known as the "Hawkins' Zouaves," played a notable role in the final attack during the Battle of Antietam. The 9th New York was involved in heavy fighting that would lead them to the outskirts of Sharpsburg. Their final position would be considered the “high water mark” for the Union attack at Antietam. In this video, we will follow their journey from the early morning hours of September 17th, 1862, to the final moments during the battle of Antietam.

Your video is really good really interesting and very factual. However I think there was one slight error and I believe it was pertaining to Toombs Georgia brigade on the heights I believe that it was the second and 20th Georgia that were dispatched to the hill overlooking Burnside bridge to try to disrupt or slow down the federals crossing of the bridge the lower bridge. Hey. The battle maps that you use (showing regiment/brigade/division positions) on your episodes are great. Do you, or any of the viewers have any suggestions for books with these printed in them? I have gotten really into large-scale ACW tabletop wargaming and finding a published book that contain many of these in one place would be invaluable to me for recreating battles right down to the positions of all the specific regiments. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! So I use a combination of things. Some, I make on my own. Some are from the American Battlefield Trust. They actually sell a book with the maps in them. And some are from CWmaps.com. I think the American Battlefield trust Mapbook may be your best bet. They make one for the eastern theater, the western theater and one for the American Revolution.

I was actually able to find a copy of the set of the very old A Compendium of the War of the Rebellion by Fredrick Dyer which has been great for knowing "who was where and when", but not so much about their specific deployment.
