The invasion phase of the Iraq War lasted only 1 month despite Iraq being on the opposite side of the Earth from the US. Russia is still in that phase 9 months later trying to invade a country right next door. Lmao

Im surprised that A) We didnt get a West Coast perspective mission like the San Francisco one in Homefront and B) The Russians didnt try solely invading from the West Coast, I doubt they wouldve been able to take Europe in such a short amount of time that the Russians would have complete stable access to France and the Iberian Peninsula in order to plan and successfully mount any kinda of naval invasion from the Atlantic. In the 2007 RTS game World in Conflict, its story is surprisingly realistic and plausible, and part of the story in that game to where the entire American force is pre-occupied dealing with the invasion of western Europe and that gives the Soviets enough time to invade the unguarded West Coast and take Seattle (Among other cities but theres only a mission for Seattle I believe) within a day.

It's definitely for shock value. The whole running theme of the campaign is Makarov's message in the trailer of "spilling blood in other countries but not your own" etc etc. We see the west coast in war games all the time but never suburban northeast and seeing that worked as intended, it made for some of the most memorable missions in cod that, as we're watching, people still are in awe over.

Did you know that you can easily take down the BTR shooting at the restaurant during the first parts of the mission? You can do that by acquiring and using an RPG that a Russian soldier randomly drops in the gas station. Used to do that every time I played this mission.

I'm a local in the general area that's fictionalized in the game. So I can't help but speculate on who get's fucked other than D.C.? All of Prince George's County, in MD; northern VA cities like Alexandria and Arlington. Basically the entire DMV (what we locals refer to as DC/MD/Northern VA) are sitting ducks. Overwhelming numbers of Russian forces can be seen parachuting down into neighborhoods while a BTR is rolling down a residential street. Homes become literal battlegrounds. As you many of you said, this was surreal! I only recently had the joy of playing MW2 for the first time, and I could see why you all treasured this back in 2009. Not going to lie, I went a little deep in this game, and took this invasion a bit personal. I was like "Welcome to the East Coast" while unloading mags lol EDIT: If I had any complaints about this part of the campaign, is that it should be noted that northern Virginia does not have ANY sort emergency sirens, which can be heard in-game.

This is nice cinematically but ultimately it's crap gameplay. - You just follow a linear path, you can't enter houses, jump over garden fences, which would be exciting/natural to how infantry would move forward. - Enemies just appear in scripted way and have no real AI. And when they spot you they just lock on to you that's all. Basically this is 0% gameplay and crap, it's really only cinematic experience. Nobody remembers old games like Far Cry 1 or FEAR where enemies actually used tactical thinking (AI would analyse the environment and select a couple different paths depending on circumstances). COD games don't put any of that effort into game design because they know the basic crowd will just buy it. Even the modern warfare 2019 game is like that, just with more shiny graphics.
