A lot of people here has never read history. Richard could have absolutely taken Jerusalem, the military orders of the Templars and Hospitallers advised him otherwise because they lacked the people to hold the city for a long time. Richard was much better than Salahuddin, and the latter even admitted he has met his match to Lionheart.

I am Muslim. Salahuddin told the captive Christians to become Muslims. When Christians refused, Salahuddin said he would kill you. He killed many Christian prisoners. Muslims enslaved many Christians. Christians worked as slaves until their death. Salahuddin has also destroyed much of Christ's legacy. He also looted what is believed to be the cross of Christ. Because Salahuddin couldn't beat Richard.I have been studying Crusaders for a long time. I don't think Richard is a bad guy. He was very kind to the fifth sultan, al-Kāmil. al-Kāmil is the eldest son of Saladin's younger brother, al-Ādil. Richard has appointed Al-Kamil, as a knight. Richard himself himself ordained him as a knight. Al-Kamil, was very pleased. Richard presented him with a respectable sword as a celebration. Al-Kamil, preserved the sword very carefully. Al-Ādil, the fourth sultan, was close to Richard. Richard and al-Ādil have negotiated many times. After the meeting with al-Ādil, Richard dispatched several guard knights to safely deliver al-Ādil. The Real History of the CrusadesThe crusades are quite possibly the most misunderstood event in European history. Most of what passes for public knowledge about it is either misleading or just plain wrongBy Prof. Thomas F. MaddenMisconceptions about the Crusades are all too common. So what is the truth about the Crusades? Scholars are still working some of that out. But much can already be said with certainty. For starters, the Crusades to the East were in every way defensive wars. They were a direct response to Muslim aggression-an attempt to turn back or defend against Muslim conquests of Christian lands. From the safe distance of many centuries, it is easy enough to scowl in disgust at the Crusades. Religion, after all, is nothing to fight wars over. Christians in the eleventh century were not paranoid fanatics. Muslims really were gunning for them. While Muslims can be peaceful, Islam was born in war and grew the same way. From the time of Mohammed, the means of Muslim expansion was always the sword. Muslim thought divides the world into two spheres, the Abode of Islam and the Abode of War. Christianity-and for that matter any other non-Muslim religion-has no abode. Christians and Jews can be tolerated within a Muslim state under Muslim rule. But, in traditional Islam, Christian and Jewish states must be destroyed and their lands conquered. When Mohammed was waging war against Mecca in the seventh century, Christianity was the dominant religion of power and wealth. As the faith of the Roman Empire, it spanned the entire Mediterranean, including the Middle East, where it was born. The Christian world, therefore, was a prime target for the earliest caliphs, and it would remain so for Muslim leaders for the next thousand years. With enormous energy, the warriors of Islam struck out against the Christians shortly after Mohammed's death. They were extremely successful. Palestine, Syria, and Egypt-once the most heavily Christian areas in the world-quickly succumbed. By the eighth century, Muslim armies had conquered all of Christian North Africa and Spain. In the eleventh century, the Seljuk Turks conquered Asia Minor (modern Turkey), which had been Christian since the time of St. Paul. The old Roman Empire, known to modern historians as the Byzantine Empire, was reduced to little more than Greece. In desperation, the emperor in Constantinople sent word to the Christians of western Europe asking them to aid their brothers and sisters in the East.That is what gave birth to the Crusades. They were not the brainchild of an ambitious pope or rapacious knights but a response to more than four centuries of conquests in which Muslims had already captured two-thirds of the old Christian world. At some point, Christianity as a faith and a culture had to defend itself or be subsumed by Islam. The Crusades were that defense.

Great job! Something I could see it would enhance the video: do a little extra explanation about the phases of combat, throwing some details here and there. Without context as to what is happening, the casual observer might think that the Crusaders were being decimated by arrows, but, while the harassing was persistent, it didn't cause a great amount of casualties. Heavy armour and defensive formations handled it just fine; a Muslim chronicler reports how Christians with up to ten arrows sticking out of their body were marching unmolested. By contrast, European crossbowmen took a toll on Saladin's cavalry archers. And stuff like that. Keep up the good work!

It would be nice if in your videos we could see the tactics that the generals used throughout the battle. There are many accounts of different flanks falling and retreating or generals making snap decisions which turned the tide of the battle. If you and a friend were in multiplayer and you planned out the battle I believe you could really enhance the quality of your videos by showing how the battles were won.

{Apology for Long Post - I got carried away The Crusdaes are fascinating.}They never met (its a pity), there was talk of one of Richard's Sisters marrying Saladin, would have been interesting if that had happened, although their styles were very different, they had many similar problems. After Acre fell, it was interesting that Saladin tested Richard, by promising the return of the "True Cross" which had been taken and apparently destroyed during the destruction of the Church of the holy Sepulchre, but then never delivered it. It bought a month of vital time for Saladin, at the expense of the lives of the 5,.000 Turkish prisoners, who were to be returned on its delivery. I wonder if Phillip (Richard's half/step brother, and original head of the Siege of Acre) would have done the same thing, I have a feeling he would have mucked it up. As it was, Agnes (Phillip's Sister) had 8 years earlier married Alexius Comnenus II, and Richard was left backing the dull incompetent "Guy of Lusignon", and the disaster that would be the Battle of Hattin 1187 was in the making, which would be the cause the 3rd Crusade. Richard failed to take Jerusalem, but he did negotiate rights for Christian pilgrims to travel there again. Saladin was probably glad to have his disparate forces not be at each others throats, and he declared Jerusalem to be Islam's third city, as part of a long range plan to wrest control of it back. "Drive them out, as they drove you out" to quote the Koran, which quizzically never addressed the point of "what if you kicked " them out first."

@Noah Pritchett What a profoundly sad confession. Having pride over one's nation of birth is just as stupid as expressing pride over one's skin color. Accidents of birth are nothing to be proud of. True pride should be reserved for personal accomplishments and creative endeavors, not for things over which you had zero choice, such as where you were born and your ethnic heritage.
@DEPARTMENTOFREDUNDANCYDEPT
@DEPARTMENTOFREDUNDANCYDEPT 3 жыл бұрын
@Noah Pritchett I agree, skin color is meaningless and nothing over which to be "proud." It is just one of many things which are simply accidents of birth which I regard as silly as objects of pride. As I stated previously, the only legitimate things which deserve expressions of pride from an individual (or a group, for that matter) are ACHIEVEMENTS, ACCOMPLISHMENTS, and CREATIONS, the results of training, education, effort, and devotion.

The crusades were not an evil aggression by Christians as the media has twisted history to now say. Just the fact that Christians were not even allowed to worship safely in Jerusalem tells you how “loving, peaceful, and tolerant” Islam was. Right - well that was 7 m,inutes of computer generated artistic license that Ill never get back. This reenactment was like the Monty Python sketch where a dozen old ladies recreated famous battles by raucously fighting with handbags in a big puddle of Mud. Arsuf was a fascinating battle, yet another example of the amazing leadership of Richard Lionheart, and how he managed to maintain cohesion, with the Hospitalers pulling one way and the Knights of Saint John doing something else. He united the forces, which had been spread after 2 days(?) of Marching and made a massive charge that wiped out many of the attacking Mohammedans. Had he timed it wrong, his forces would have been wiped out.

Good point about the Saracen arrows not penetrating Christian armour - but the arrows were taking out horses and non-armoured personnel (pages, cooks, followers etc). One thing that was missed (that perhaps would be interesting to insert) was that the Christians rode on big strong boy horses. The Saracens rode fast athletic girl horses. So when the Christian knights charged - a 1000+ boy horses upon seeing 100s and 100s of good looking girl horses were thinking “oh yeah!!”. On the other hand the girl horses were thinking ….. that isn’t documented … but many brave Saracens ended up fighting over their shoulder with no choice of their own.

Hossam Soliman Saladin lost every battle he fought against Richard the Lionheart despite outnumbering him or facing him with similar numbers. He lost in Arsuf, the battle of Jaffa and the Siege of Acre. And although Richard never reconquered Jerusalem, he shattered Saladin's reputation of invincibility and ensured the existence of Crusader states within the Middle East for the time being.

I mean all the "blood" splashing. Paintballing is a a kind of sport in which you shoot balls of colour that when they hit your opponent they burst and splatter him in colour, usually red, so that this is evidence that he was shot and must leave the game. Nothing wrong with your video, it is great, this is something weird about some mods.

i like the movie better. Again it is one side telling the story. The other side has a different story. I was waiting for Ironman or the Hulk to appear or grenades(the Sarasens had them) clay hollow balls filled with Chinese gunpowder. They actually found 60,000 of these in a cave in Spain as best as they can figure they were grenades with fuses.

Very bad representation of the battle of Arsuf. Absolutely no Crusader army, under the authority of Richard the Lionhearted, would have his men stand ground, while his infantry were cut down by storm of arrows. While at the same time the armoured cavalry were idling, wondering if Disneyland is as good as the pagan witch foreseen. The Cavalry honing their their skills indiplomacy so it seems, book worms the lot of them. We know that wasn't the case at all, the were cold blooded murderers ready to parttake in the conquest of the Holy Land. I thumbed it up, for the voiceover, the action was nicely done till the actual Sahaladin attack. Shame, really. Looked so very promising, the crusading units were excellently depicted to a degree, and I liked the dirt on the Crusading bowmen. I'll rewatch it again, I'll post this to a Historical society group, maybe they'll entertain the positives. Regardless, thanks for the upload.
