Battle of Chronos: Patek Philippe 5170G vs. A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Boutique

Hi, today we are looking at two really cool chronographs. One is Patek Philippe 5170G with white dial and another is A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Boutique Edition.

A. Lange all day. A. Lange is much more durable, accurate, reliable watch and the finishing is much better than Patek! 👍👍

Absolute BS. The Gyromax balance makes the Patek far more reliable and accurate. Lange's balance assembly is much more rudimentary and they don't use silicon.

Elaborate then on why Lange is more reliable than Patek. And even then, one man's personal experience is anecdotal evidence.

The Lange is a fly back..enough said.;) one thing I don’t like about Patek is they are not consistent in their watch making. Quality of their watches goes up and down with range. Just take any Lange, even the lowest range quality is perfect. That’s fine watchmaking for you.

Beautiful comparison to see them side by side and in a NATO! If only there’s a 3rd watch here which is the Platinum VC Cornes de Vache 1955. It is hard to pick between all three but I think I’m leaning towards the 1815 chrono boutique.

The lugs are 21mm so I assume that is a 20mm nato? Looks totally fine though. That's the one thing that bugs me about Patek: they use 21mm lugs on a lot of their watches and I'm sitting here with a drawer full of 20mm sized straps :-).

Haha thanks for the comment! So, yes, these are 20mm NATO. I think they totally work. Also, a bit strap gap for these watches really make them look more casual 😂 I would recommend rubber NATO as well. They are much more comfortable than regular nylon straps.

Hi, Are original spring bars used when attaching a Nato strap to the 5170??

The 5170 will be more historically important over the years than Lange 1815, and it is overall more beautiful imho

I think both are great but I get where you are coming from:) Patek does have a longer lineage of chronographs than Lange!

Both are great watches. The Patek dial is more artistic and the case more streamlined. The movement in the Lange is next level and unmatched by Patek. It’s also a fly back chronograph which the Patek is not. The finishing both are superb but the Lange has the edge. Can’t go wrong with either one. It’s what appeals to you more that counts.

Patek all day. Curious: do you have a 20mm nato on it? I know the lugs are 21mm, but seems like one can easily put 20mm straps on it without too much of a gap. Thanks.
