Objectively, Atollon was more of a devastating loss than Hoth. But the silver lining was that Hoth occurred after Yavin which was a turning point of the war, it can be deemed as a setback rather than a downright catastrophe for Rebel morale.
@galenwrathweld2 жыл бұрын
In a sense yes, but I'd still lean on Hoth being the worse loss. If for no other reason than even though Atollon was percentage wise a near total loss their were still other rebel cells and bases they could fall back on. By the time hoth happened their wasn't really anywhere in the galaxy the rebels could run too, not to mention the sheer amount of work and material they lost evacuating the base.

I remember being shocked when I read one of the old Star Wars reference books and it was explained to me that Hoth was actually a LOSS for the Rebellion. I have no idea why this never penetrated my head before right then, it made perfect sense to me the second I read it but something about the way it was depicted in the movie didn't get that across to a young me.
@jesseberg32712 жыл бұрын
If you're my age or younger, it's because when you first saw it, you were so young that you didn't have a concept of strategy, and you didn't reexamine it until you saw the reference book. When you see it as a kid, all you notice is that the bad guy failed to catch the heroes, and hey! Obi Wan is talking to Luke again!
@stephenvargas58062 жыл бұрын
It was a tactical loss for the Rebellion but a Strategic win for them as well. They were overpowered in battle so they lost on the tactical front and had to withdraw but there grand goal was to withdraw successfully, thus the Rebellion could live to fight another day. Whereas the Imperial strategic goal was to destroy the Rebels once and for all and capture Luke and neither of those were achieved from them winning the battle.
@therealuncleowen25882 жыл бұрын
Hoth was a tactical defeat for the rebellion, they lost some vessels, left behind much equipment, lost more men than the Empire, and had to flee their base. But strategically, Hoth was a rebel victory. Faced with a situation where the rebellion could have been deprived of all their civilian and many of their military leaders, they managed to escape and join the bulk of their fleet.
@tyree90552 жыл бұрын
When you survive to fight another day, most will see that as a win, even if you've had to retreat (and the movie didn't show the Empire butchering the defenders too much either - just the scene of the exterior withdrawal and allusions to it indoors, which is where they dropped the ball at).
@SantomPh Жыл бұрын
they lost a lot of personnel and equipment, as well as their biggest single base. Their leadership had to scatter into small fleets on the run, their ships going all over the galaxy. Basically the Rebels went back to their roots of being small cells, relying on spies and guerilla warfare. The Empire published it as a big win, even though Vader knew otherwise as Luke and Leia were still alive, as were key rebels like Jan Dodona and Rogue Squadron. The Rebels were building up their forces to challenge the Empire in a more conventional way up to then, but like at Lothal the Empire found them and wiped out that option.

I'm not really into Star Wars, so no I don't watch or read except the movies (big-budget one that appears in cinema) So I'm sorry if I offend you, but I never see Star Wars as SciFi, more like Space Fantasy, heck SciFan (Science Fantasy) maybe, you know all the magic and the drama instead of fiction tech and fictional society feeling. I know Sir George Lucas based lots of it from WW2, but I can't see it at all, except for the designs
@MicaiahBaron2 жыл бұрын
@@cumaakuyangtahu5982 Science Fiction is a genre; fiction, involving a scientific principle. Star Wars has Jedi which are fantastic, but it falls under the genre definition of "science fiction". Your confusion might be the fact that, practically speaking, science fiction is technically a kind of fantasy; fantasy that involves fantastic scientific inventions beyond what we are capable of, usually set either in the future or in a distant/unobtainable land, and which involve technology beyond what society is capable of now. Star Wars is more of a "soft" science fiction than, say, Asimov, but it still fits. Look up "Mohs Scale of Science Fiction" for more details; that might help.
@cumaakuyangtahu59822 жыл бұрын
@@MicaiahBaron ah yes nice point there. Agree with term "Soft SciFi", because its "loosely based" of current / mainstream science. While things like Stargate, Starship Troopers, and Halo is kinda "Hard SciFi". You see I'm not an avid reader. So, to me (IMO) science fiction is more like "What if the current trend of science got so advanced in the futuristic theme?". Thus, when things like The Force introduced, it's sounds more magical rather than scientific. And why a civilization that reach a planet administrative level and in far-space-faring tech level still have "wet markets" and "industrial revolution"-esque factory seems more like a part of "-punk Derivatives". And then again I love the "-punk Derivation". Stories that build-up society different than ours. Say, what if we never reach digital era, instead we stuck in diesel engine era and advanced it to the fullest? Or what if electrical engine never discovered and we stuck with steam tech? Yeah, cool

Nitpick on Death Squadron: the core formation was a dreadnought and FIVE Star Destroyers, that were usually Devastator, Avenger, Tyrant, Conquest, and Stalker (though the ships were cycled: Stalker wasn't at Hoth, having been temporarily replaced by Ultimatum... That was then forced to spend some time in a shipyard after repeated asteroid impacts took down the shields and destroyed the bridge tower). I say CORE formation because the full strength of Death Squadron was 33 Imperial-class Star Destroyers, 3 Tector-class, 2 battlecruisers of unspecified design, at least two Victory-class Star Destroyers, at least two Immobilizer-class interdictors, and many smaller ships of multiple types. Darth Vader simply usually kept with him only the Executor and five Star Destroyers, with the other ships being deployed elsewhere or with the main formation as needed. The only time the full force of Death Squadron was deployed in combat at once was the Battle of Endor, and we all know what happened that day.

Damn. Another defeat for the Rebels. Honestly, I don't know if they can keep going like this. They already are incredibly limited on resources, and now, they are on a constant retreat losing even more against the industrial and military juggernaut that is the Empire. Honestly, I don't really think they can win this war. Only another victory of the scale of the destruction of the Death Star could save them. Something like, for example, killing the Emperor. But it's unlikely he will leave Corusant for any reason, and after the lost of most of their spies on the capital planet, it's even more unprobable the Rebels can get near him again. So I don't see how that can get to happen neither.

I didn’t realize Hoth was so close to Mustafar that likely means the rebels had scouting missions to both Fortress Inquisitorius on Nur as well as Vaders Castle

Did I miss Luke taking down an AT/AT on foot with a grenade?
@havareriksen10042 жыл бұрын
It is a nicely done presentation. However, there are some errors. First, we see the snow troopers advance on foot ahead of the AT ATs. That is not what we see in the movie and the purpose of the AT AT are as troop transports, not tanks. In the movie we hear General Veers order the troops to disembark for ground assault, so in the movie the troops are on the ground just outside of the rebel base. Further, the shield power generators are shown to be blown up by an Advanced TIE interceptor, later indicated to be Lord Vader's vessel. In the movie there are no air assets flown by the Empire, and the power generators are targeted and destroyed by the AT AT commandeered by general Veers. And in showing the AT AT losses, credit is given to colonel Starcks for disabling an AT AT with a thermic grenade. This surely must be the incidence where Luke Skywalker, after having crashed his snow speeder, managed to get a thermal detonator inside the hull of the AT AT that trampled his downed snow speeder. In the summary it sounds as Lord Vader was to blame for the escape of the rebel forces due to no scouting of the area and poor blockade. But Lord Vader had no other choice. Using time to scout the area before launching an attack would have given time for the rebels to evacuate even more of their forces before the ground attack commenced. As for the blockade, Vader used all vessels in his task force for the blockade, except for those used to transfer troops and vehicles for the ground assault. What helped the rebels escape was the hubris and ineptitude of the Star Destroyer commanders, and that they did not know the danger posed by the rebel's ion cannon.

Vader's "relentless search?" On your map, you have HOTH, right next to Mustafar, Vader's chosen home system. So, Vader would have to be really inept not to notice this.

It is space. You don't check every planet, there are too many.

True, but I guarantee he use this to his advantage and I mentioned that also, but at least the rebels should’ve kind of known this was Vader’s home I don’t know why they picked Hoth. In my opinion, they deserve the title of epic fail.

@@WizardsandWarriors May I see a complete Clone Wars timeline, please? Please also include plenty of space battles and more. I want to hear of Ahsoka Tano, too, please. I would appreciate a reply. Also, what is the music used in the conclusion of this video?
@SantomPh Жыл бұрын
they didn't quite know Vader's personal fortress was at Mustafar. The Empire sent probe droids everywhere, even the planets they had occupied.- Hoth was as unlikely as anywhere for a base to be placed, so the Rebels put it there. Space in Star Wars isn't like in Star Trek- ships have to travel in hyperspace lanes or risk flying through fields of rock and debris or even stars. Even though Hoth is close to Mustafar, one doesn't just jump from Mustafar.

This video isn’t that accurate to the movie. Unless someone is using some revisionist Star Wars lore. The AT-AT numbers are wrong, Veers wasn’t injured, Vader didn’t blow up the shield generator (veers did), skywalker destroyed the AT-AT with a thermal grenade, not CPT so and so.
@omarbaba989226 күн бұрын
Veers was canonically injured, the scene was just cut from the movie

The Empire in the OT was not the incompetent joke that it became in later books and now in Disney TV shows.

@@steelshanks1265 Exactly. Their idea of writing strong female characters is to make the male characters, goofy, inept and comic relief (Hulk). I was done when I saw Endgame, and I have no interest in Black Panther 2.
