That battle scene probably couldn't of went any other way. It was either Jon snow and the entire audience watches Ramsey shoot down his last living known relative or the only person who is supposed to do something does something.. and once Jon snow, the Commanding General, falls for the trap, Ser Davos saves his ass. Stannis Baratheon won many wars literally because of Ser Davos.
