The second video on the battle of St. Vith. This is from the National Archives and covers the desperate defense of the remnants of the 106th Infantry Division, the 7th Armored Division, Combat Command B of the 9th Armored Division, and the 112th Infantry Regiment of the 28th Division, the "Bloody Bucket."

Thank you for relaying this footage from the National archives. Nowadays everyone wants to reinvent history. I agree that we should re-examine historical events when new info comes to light and certainly there is a spin to these old film reels. That fact does not make them any less valuable and insightful.

Thanks DM, that is a well presented account of that phase of the battle. I enjoyed freeze framing and studying the detailed maps that you included in this video.

St. Vith. It has a French pronunciation like Son' Vie. It is interesting in the video how some people pronounce in English, while others try to emulate French. There is a similar issue with Bastogne. A Belgian, well versed in English stated it is pronounced Bas-stone-yah, while I prefer Bas-stone since that is how I heard it as a wee-lad.
