This was TRULY helpful. I used to use disc bound notebooks YEARS ago so I had an old Levenger circa punch (the midrange one just below the one you have) and I bought a travel one that I kept in my desk at work. I find that my old Levenger desk punch (I'm talking 10 years old at least) punches like the arc and my travel punch that was in my work desk punches like the newer Levenger punches (ie, the big daddy you have) and I must say that I love the way my pages turn with that one better. It may just be time to upgrade.

The sound is off for some reason, your voice comes out the left speaker and the music on the right. Corrects itself at 25:29 then goes out again at 26:49. I use a strong magnet to create a guide on my punch, all my pages are the same.

I definitely prefer the Levenger. I have the two lower sizes including the travel size which I bought directly from their site (but on sale) and the dome on the Levenger makes pages turn much easier so it’ll always be my top pick. I have the Arc as well and previously owned the TUL too. Thanks for the comparison as I had considered doing one too.

I have the original Levenger disc punch. It looks similar to the happy planner punch but the pieces are removable, it handles probably 8-10 sheets. I have also used it to punch planner covers from Dollar Tree cutting mats without any problems. I have probably owned it for 15-20 years. And have been using the disc system way before I ever heard of happy planner. I buy thru their website. The paper they have is thicker and very smooth to write on. I have not ordered their planners but assume the paper weight is similar.

Thank you! I found this video so helpful!! One thing you might consider on your happy punch is to add a few layers of masking tape along the bottom edge (lined up along the line) to act as a makeshift stopper to keep the paper lined up in the exact same place. A dedicated stopper would be nice, but tape works in a pinch.

HP punch barely punch thru one page. It’s annoying as a regular planner so I’m sure its not efficient as a shop owner. I hope HP comes out with a more durable punch soon

i did a lot of research before picking and lavenger punch sold me because of its large umbrella which makes it SO much easier to flip the pages. with the smaller umbrellas, flipping the pages was such a hassle because they always got stuck!

My take is that I would worry the discs would be too loose in the Levenger. The Levenger is still short like the Arc. If the Arc punches 10 mil laminate I would probably go with the Arc. I have seriously been wondering about all three of these as a comparison. Thanks so much for making this video. It is a huge help in deciding which to purchase :-)

Nice comparison video, thank you! Reinforces my decision to get the heavy duty Levenger punch when I first started. I started with a Levenger sample pack with the $40 gift card to start, as another video extolled the virtues of easy-page-turning and the ability to punch DIY covers as well as more paper. Levenger pre-punched and my Levenger-punched pages turned smoothly every time, but Martha Stewart pages always need TLC to shift them around at page turns. MAMBI pre-printables did a little better. TUL from Office Depot do ok. I've used it to make binder covers out of heavier materials as well.

I'd be hesitant to invest in a Levenger punch as I wouldn't know how to adjust the holes for my Happy Planners, Big and Classic. From what I understand, it can't be adjusted for minis. Thanks!

No you're not weird. I have a regular heavy duty punch that I purchased specifically because it allows the punches to be moved or removed. Thanks for the review because I have the Arc Desktop Disc punch and just got the Crop-a-dile punch which punches thru thicker materials but still have the Levenger in my cart. Can you please review how all these punches handle thicker material like laminated pages?

After my HP punch broke I did some research and bought both the arch and levenger punches one I use for heavier card stock and to make my cover and dividers and the other I use for punching my printable inserts

I find the TUL punch to be a bit different from ARC and Happy Planner. Be careful if you want it to punch your happy planner papers. I have both systems and found that both punches were needed. I hope this is helpful. This is an excellent video!

I just ordered the Arc. Caught it on sale after finding the Arc planners on sale for almost 70% off. I didn't even know about the Levenger, but either way it's a little more than I was willing to spend, seeing as this is my first time trying out the Discbound system. Really enjoying it so far and already have a lot of ideas for making my own custom designs and punching them. I was using a regular 3 ring binder and school paper and knew I needed to upgrade. Glad I went with the Discbound. So many options/ideas too explore.

I use the Arc, but your right the depth should be different. The Levenger punch as their own store where you can order from as well. All their items they have in their store are very expensive. Thanks for sharing the comparison.

@@jessicajovel7162 I have long since fallen out of planning, but it definitely handled heavier stuff. The HP one is pretty miserable. I haven’t gotten around to sell my Arc punch yet. I can probably run a test punch in it if need be.

I bet HP has the patent for their punch so the only way to get what we want is for them to make a more durable punch. But of course why would they do that, then we could all make our own covers! On the Happy Planner punch that doesn't have a guide stop (or whatever you call it), could you stack a couple of pieces of washi tape to create a guide? Maybe on either side of your most frequently used size paper. Haven't seen one of these in person so don't know if it would work. Just a thought.

I don't know if you have an office depot. They have the Tul system. There punch is similar to the happy planner style punch. It has a guide and you can remove the punch tabs. The only thing is that it is not as deep. I know that I can punch about 6 pages on mine.

Thank you for this very thorough review, love it! I love the depth of the HP punch. I love that the Arc can punch lamination, but hate the shallowness of the punch. I'm assuming the the Levenger, the only I don't have, can handle lamination, but is the punch as shallow as the Arc?

That was helpful! I’ve been using a Happy Planner punch, but recently started a planner with the TUL discs (Office Depot). I got some Levenger discs (love the aluminum rose gold) to enable the planner to hold more paper. However, now the pages are getting stuck a lot when turning. Ugh! I am not keen on spending $80 to not have stuck pages.

I know this video is quite a few years old, but maybe the happy planner you can put little magnets to help with aligning. :)

Hi, I have the HP big pink punch. I usually only punch regular paper so I don't have an issue. But I am looking into PPP and want to punch it myself. I am wondering if the Levenger punched papers turn smoothly on the HP discs. I have used TUL pages and they do not hold up on the HP discs.

I really appreciate this video. I'm so annoyed with the punch situation. I decided to go to a discbound system and assumed everything would be compatible, like the ring-bound planners are. But I got the ARC punched and noticed immediately that it is more shallow than the pages already in my happy planner, so it means the papers stick out slightly. Too bad the happy planner doesn't have a good guide. I might get the Levenger. It's $99 now in the model you have, but they have some cheaper versions, still not cheap.

Is levenger still your favorite? I'm thinking of getting it. I now have arc but I don't like the shortness of mushroom stem.
