Nice to see the old Summitar lens doing well when compared to newer coated lenses. I only have a Summitar 50mm f/2 lens for my IIIb, and I don't intend to change that any time soon. I haven't put colour film through my IIIb yet, but it's on the to-do list.

The shot of my cat Missie shows the lovely, rich but subtle colour palate the old Summitar has - along with the beautiful fall off of sharpness at the edges of the frame that give an almost dreamlike quality. I can't really afford to have an 50mm Elmar for compactness and a Summitar - but the Industar 10 does super well for pocket-ability

Many thanks for the interesting comparison. I own the Canon 1.8 as well as a coated summitar but have to shoot the latter more to come to my own verdict. But there is also a Canon 1.5 on my shelf, that is asking to be used and the first rolls from it were very promising! I need to shoot more film, that is for sure! 😊

Summitar is a fantastic lens. I have a 1946 10 blade coated one on my Leica iif. Nice review of lenses.

I have the silver and black version of the Canon 50mm 1.4 for my Canon 7. Its nickname is the Japaneses Summilux. I comes highly recommended. Why is posting links in comments not allowed? I would have posted a link to a review of the lens.

When I started I got lots of links left by spammers for 'adult websites' so I disabled comment links. I was literally taking down 10 a week! I will lift that restriction tomorrow and see how it goes.
