I’m new to the channel and gotta say this is one of the most intelligent shaving vids I’ve seen. Well done!

Good video. Glad your back and kicked Covid to the curb. I’ve been wet shaving for 10yrs+ and I am still learning stuff. That tip about the blade angle and the back of your hand is great! Thanks for the comparison and the tip! Be well!!

Great video. I learned a lot. You have 300x more razors than me. I guess I have some catching up to do. The back of the hand angle check was very helpful. Great idea. Someday I may splurge for a REX razor.

Excellent video! Thanks for the back of the hand/angle tip. I also like and agree with your comment concerning aggression. I don't think most DE wet shavers really know what aggressive is until they've used a truly aggressive razor. I'm a face and head shaver myself. I have razors like the Stirling-HA and Yaqi Knight Helmet in my collection that I use on my face and head. After using hyper-aggressive razors like those, razors like the R41, Ambassador, Stirling-ST, etc. feel mild to me. I do know the earlier production run of the Ambassador was supposedly more aggressive and I think that reputation just stuck and has been carried over to the current generation. Same thing applies with the current R41 vs the pre 2013 versions. I too own both the Ambassador and Konsul. They are my absolute favorite adjustable razors and IMO are the best adjustable razors currently on the market. Their build quality is second to none. And they provide exceptional shaves.

Looking at the Konsul coming from the Envoy but dont want to give up on the Envoy just yet. Only 2 shaves in on it out of 4 total wet shaves ever but it does seem a little aggressive maybe? 2nd shave I avoided the bumps on my neck so hopefully shave 3 and more gets better too. The Konsul does seem appealing though.

I was about to order the Rex ambassador after watching alot of great reviews a few years ago.. But it was out of stock and never was able to get one... today i remember the rex and found out about the Consul... looks amazing but very expensive. Got to be better than the ambassador for me to buy it. Great review bro, im glad you made it trough covid.! Subscribing!
Did you just buy the gold handle replacement part to swap out to get the two tone?

I reached out to them and did a custom order

For a second pass you could try an across the grain shave. It can be almost a close as against the grain but no blade skipping.

I have over 300 razors DE and SE as well I believe really most Adjustables are similar, I have non adjustable slants and I prefer regular adjustables myself. I have over 100 straight razors too. I think I bought far too many razors so I don't believe I will add anymore, cool review though 🙂🙏

Scott! Good to see you! We need more Scott! Hope the vacay was fun even with the heat and the subsequent CV19; good of you to have the kids go through the Disney rite of passage. I found it so hot that as an adult it is not great fun but the little ones sure do enjoy the experience. Thanks for the tip on angle and using the back of your hand; I have the three piece Envoy and have not enjoyed it given the blade exposure (though you are right about the build quality I think) so I will give that a try and see if I can improve my technique. Is that a real barber pole? Take care and thanks again for the video.
@starplyr882 жыл бұрын
It is a real barber pole just not a vintage one. My wife redid our bathroom for Christmas for me with some of my razors. Be sure to adjust the angle start by laying the razor flat and tilt it on the guard bar.

hey Scott, i'm new to your channel and to wetshaving. How would you compare the Konsul to the Rockwell T2 SS? I currently use the Ikon X3.

Do you mind if I ask what the date code is on your Ambassador? I have a feeling that a lot of the reputation is built off reviews of the first year that contained a batch that was considered too aggressive (M4), then toned down for later versions. Even later reviewers of the milder version had already heard that it's an aggressive razor, so their impressions were partly formed before opening the box.

@@starplyr88 I just wanted to update my previous comment about the Ambassador blade feel being higher in the first year M4 batch bc I finally got to try a later model (O3) which is how they shave in every other batch except M4. The M4 cap and guard are definitely more narrow on the M4, so the blade is closer to the edge of the guard and with a smaller cap. It feels like blade is just larger in the M4. The blade tray/guard is thicker on the O3, which makes it feel more comfortable, although I think they beefed it up for machining stability reasons. The gap looks about the same. This is totally subjective, but my first impression was that the M4 on setting 2 is around where the O3 feels on setting 6. That being said, I thought I was a mild razor fan until I got the Ambassador (M4) in April. I learned the angle, and it became my everyday razor that felt totally normal. Comparing them side by side, it seemed to me how most people react when comparing the blade feel on the Ambassador to the Konsul.

Great video Scott 👍🏼, I definitely prefer the sound of the Konsul, but they’re both great razors. I have a question, does the long handle Rex feel head/ top heavy? The SH are very well balanced and I’m interested to know if the LH feels a bit less less balanced? I’m about to buy a Konsul but can’t decide between a SH or LH 😆.

Great video. Subbed. I find to equal efficiency the Konsul is about 1.5 notches higher. So 5 Konsul is about a 3 for the ambassador. Still Konsul has less bladefeel. I love them both. Konsul is easy, mindless and safe. Ambassador is a bit more fun and challenging with the bladefeel. I like the handle, grip and balance on the ambassador a bit better

i own an ambassador and many other razors do you think its worth it to pick up a konsul? i have no slant razors...is it really that much smoother etc? thx

It really is a smooth razor much less blade feel than that of an ambassador

Nice comparison and great advice on blade angle. Hey, it’s all in the name of science, right? After 2+ years, COVID found me at the beginning of May. Same as you, runny nose, sore throat, and mucus. Glad you’re better Scott!
