The funny thing is that William's heirs considered Normandy the biggest prize despite the fact that there was the throne of England up for grabs. William II of England and his brother Henry resented Robert for getting Normandy. Robert was pleased with Normandy, but believed his brothers only deserved some land in England as a fief and he should be King of England too. As for William, after the harrying of the north he left England in the hands of his administrators and didn't want to return to such a damp land. It's almost as if he didn't like England, but wanted to be King anyways. Henry I would later treat England as a piggy bank with Normandy being his most important land.

For sure ! After 150 years of Norman rule Normandy was a well-organised land that yielded many resources. When you know the usefulness of a document like the Domesday Book apply that to the duchy for said 150 years of Norman rule. No wonder why the Vikings stood in awe as they sailed back up the Seine river and saw chalk cliffs, the fertile meanders and vast expanses of wild forests, and believed their had come to their promised paradise.

With so many Dukes,Counts & even Kings constantly fighting each over land disputes or succession rights or who owns rights to what it was good idea to send em to the Levant and point em in the direction of the Seljuk Turks!
