Is the Tokina smaller (and lighter) than the Tamron? The specs show the Tamron is supposed to be smaller but your side by side makes it look the other way around.

Nice video as always Alan! Do you still have the canon fd 17mm f4? (i think you mentioned it sometime ago in a review). Would be interesting how it compares against the two.

I got a Canon FD 17mm f3.5 for not much more than the Tamron, but it is worth it.

1 thing they have in common is the insanity of their pricing. Those lenses really are only nice for those who collect them, for everyone else there are modern alternatives which cost a lot less. The samyang 14mm F2.8 for instance. Yet the Tamron costs used the same if not more. Just stupid.

I have this Tamron prime lens. My adapter just came in the mail for my 70d, and I am in LOOOOVE with this lens! I got it at goodwill for 4.99, and I was going to sell it when I found out what they go for, but after testing its functionality, I'm definitely adopting this glass to add to the family!

I haven't used too many vintage wides so look to giving one of these crack in the not too distant future. Love the flare on the Tamron.

I bought the Tamron 17mm about 40 years ago. At that time, it was just about the only choice short of paying twice as much or more for a Nikkor. I've actually used it very little over the years because ultra wide imaging and I just do not seem to get along. A friend of mine used it a couple of times on our landscape trips and thought quite highly of it. (Thanks Adaptall II mounts) I always assume that these types of lenses will not perform very well wider than f 8.0, so sharpness isn't an issue. At least, my copy of the lens will flare like nothing else I've ever owned if you are foolish enough to get the sun in the image, its open major flaw.

Did you test these with a full frame camera? I am wondering if I adapted these to my Samsung NX1 35mm crop sensor, I would have less distortion and vignetting. Thoughts?

A couple of psychedelic effects and you have a Led Zeppelin video with that split screen. ;-) Great as always Alan!

Toke looks to have better contrast, more natural color rendition and as it has a mustache sort of distortion on the brick wall the Tamron has the more barrel distortion. Barrel is easier to fix in post.
