I’ve been reading a lot about 17th century England, so the whole ‘no bishops’ made me laugh. They really hated bishops back then and I imagine that’s probably one of the things the roundheads screamed out while marching to war.

I think I see a lot of young ladies hidden in ("plain sight") the ranks here - apart from the camp followers. Reminds me of Terry Pratchett's novel 'Monstrous Regiment'. What would Cromwell have thought of women fighting in the front line? Lady Chudleigh would have been thrilled!

Silly question perhaps, but what happened to the battle ?

The parliamentarians decisively defeated the royalist whom were outnumbered 2:1

Yeah it could be argued the most important engagement in the first civil war as Parliament almost completely decimated the King’s Oxford army leaving only the army led by Hopton in the west (although I am not entirely sure if it was Hopton in 1645) , many veterans were killed or captured

To truly understand the American Revolution, you first need to understand the English Civil War(s).

@Fusilier Yes the 'glorious revolution' seems to be often quietly forgotten. Yet the impact and repercussions were huge. In a way perhaps greater then the 1642/51 episode.

damn did the Roundheads eat the royalist after they won a battle ?????
@andymoore99773 жыл бұрын
I believe so. But Prince Rupert's white Standard (hunting) poodle 'boy' used to turn Roundheads into tins of Winalot and Pedigree Chum whenever he could, so it is only fair.....

Why do they have music they’re going into war
@gabrielegenota14803 жыл бұрын
Drums were used to carry out orders because battlefields would be very noisy.

It seems that the soldiers were then less disciplined than the Queen's guards you can watch at Trooping the Colour. Besides, every soldier dressed as he liked

Armies weren't quite as regimented as they were in the 18th century and on.
