I could instantly tell this was composed by Teruo Taniguchi even before I had learned about the composers and it made me so happy. I love Taniguchi's work on GIGA WRECKER and the synth melodies were so clearly similar to that.

Nah, definitely Teruo Taniguchi. Check out their stuff from Giga Wrecker (another Game Freak game) and you'll hear the similarities. There's no official credits so we're mostly all guessing here.
