I like how they never mentioned the word 'ninja' or 'shinobi' in the game, not once, even though that's essentially what Jin's journey was about, Discarding his Samurai code and becoming a Shinobi to save his people

Actually, when you play it on japanese his uncle says shinobi is the way of Code he has to leave. In the first Mission after you RAID the Kaneda fortress.

Because shinobi didnt exists in 12th century, they were "Thieves" or "assassins". Shinobi/kunoichi as an official military grade starts appear in 15th century when lords or shogun hire them as spies or assassins

Assassinate people or climb walls doesent mean "ninja", especially in the historical period when ninjas didnt exists. Shinobi start appears in late XIII century, and the game take place in 1274

Same dude best way to play is to combine stealth and open combat. I kill half quietly then reveal myself to kill the rest, pretty fun. Or sometimes I would just take on a giant fort without stealth, that was also fun lol

@@joodgement3388 Same. I do stealth most of the time but I just got fed up with all the sneaking around, took one of the bigger mongol camps on at the top of the map. And man it was fun. Also the duels in this game have always been so fun.

This actually happened to me, big base, got in the flow, was perfect parrying left and right while running around and literally exhausting my entire ammo supply, used murder hornets boom barrels, started noticing the music synching as the fight grew more desperate... and then right as the chanting started and I felt like a Samurai god of war in the best Samurai movie ever I got cocky and died. I was so bummed I didn't get to finish that fight properly.

The game’s point is not about Jin discarding the samurai code and becoming a shinobi, but about disobeying his uncle and general, which is inherently against the bushido itself, and this is why there is still honor in Jin and he still is samurai-ish, just a different perspective from that of the bushido. Bushido is not about dying in hopeless battles, but sacrificing yourself for your lord without question, absolute obedience. Yes there is still family to take into account, and not every samurai at all followed the bushido, just like Jin who couldn’t sacrifice his uncle and people for the Shogun.

The game is about honor. For Jin, honor was saving those who could not save themselves, by all means necessary. For the shogun, and thus Shimura, honor was in tradition and the code of bushido. By the end of the game, Jin became more akin to a ronin than a shinobi. Still honorable, just completely separated from the way of bushido.

Yeah I hope by the next game, they clarify that Jin doesn’t see himself as this thing outside of the conventions of the samurai. The way he viewed honor was inherently different from since he was young, so I think he would say that a samurai should be able to follow the code he does and still be one.

I haven’t listened to an in game soundtrack this much in life and not gotten bored, this is an amazing piece. When the Japanese chanting starts and your blade is ricocheting off of shields and blades and spears and it’s you against the men who’ve invaded your island. You’ll stop at nothing and this just amps your spirit up even more that you’ll fight no matter what. Great job Sucker Punch ❤️

I can practically see the entire first episode: starting with Jin riding with Lord Shimura into battle and falling, waking up and escaping Komoda Village with Yuna, choosing his horse and riding solo into Castle Kaneda, dueling the Khan and once he's thrown off the bridge, roll credits. And then there's a post-credit scene with Jin groaning awake, with the wind rustling over his back.

I love listening to this music. Especially 1:09 it’s my favorite part. While listening to it, I imagine that I am Legendary Samurai Miyamoto Musashi and that I am currently attacking a Mongol fortress in tsushima and slaughtering these wicked conquerers and showing them no mercy by decapitating them one after another.

I'am not 100% sure (about 95%) but Musashi never fought against Mongolian people. (Not the same Era) he lived during the Sekigahara battle, which was in 1600. He did fought A LOT ( AN EFFIN LOT) of Duels, and won almost all them using just a bokken (a wooden katana) oh ! did I mention it was against real swords ? That madman ! He was, that's for sure, an incredible man. (The kind that legend told about him usually are even more crazy.) But you know that when a legend says that a guy could cut a hundred bamboo in one swoop, there's some truth to it hahah
