This is the best big-picture BF1 video I’ve ever seen. I’m old (68) and came very late to gaming and FPSs, and I sucked horribly for months and months, improving very slowly, and most days not at all. I found I loved the game, though, and couldn’t leave it alone. I spent a lot of time really pissed at things in the game - camping snipers, corner campers with shotguns, Medics who don’t revive, Scouts who don’t scout, Support who don’t support, and many more annoyances. I watch lots of videos, learned to play a little smarter, and found my niche in Support, but the biggest improvement I’ve made is in my attitude. I accept things now. I admire clever plays by people who kill me. BF1 life is easier. I still suck, but not as badly. I know I’m slowly improving and this video sums up beautifully the mental part of the game that is so necessary to work at. Thank you to Broken Machine.

B. Abbott its reassuring to me (and probably most people around my age) that people from earlier generations accept and are into gaming. Its truly awesome that different generations can come together and enjoy something together. Hats off to you especially since alot of people from earlier generations tend to think that gaming is futile and a waste of time. Cheers mate

Honestly man this is one of my favorite TBM videos. I found it helpful when gaming (sometimes I'll have it playing in the background) and at this stressful time right now for me it's helpful, especially about failure and looking out for those fails (allowing urself to fail as you said) and having a growth mindset as well as be in aware of what I can't control. Cheers dude.

Wow, thank you so much dude!! Glad you came across this video - as weird as it sounds, I've rewatched it a couple of times too - remind myself ya know. You open yourself up and compare your personal issues to problems you might encounter in a game. That shows an open mind and it's a very honourable thing of you to do. It's mother of all guides. Masterpiece. I learnt a lot from your streams: 2 most important had big impact on my gameplay and performance: can't win all gunfight, I was so hungry of kills never pulling back that was mistake, and another one: take your time! I'm a current Master's student in performance psychology that tailors psychological principals toward athletes. This stuff is absolutely spot on. One tip I would give that truly helps to bring about a growth mindset instead of a fixed one is the approach called "1 small thing" or 1ST. 1ST requires self awareness, which TBM talks about here, in order to understand an area for growth. Maybe that's taking your time covering your exits, remembering to use humility in fights that aren't yours and exiting the room instead of dying, or popping flares constantly as a scout. Once you've isolated the thing you want to work on that day, judge your performance not on the outcome or k/d but on your improvement of that 1ST. One day of mindful focus may be all it takes to absolutely nail that part down. Then free play and ball out. The next day can be something different for 1ST and you'll improve overall. Great vid on something not addressed among gamers often, TBM. Physical, technical, and tactical are only 3 of the 4 pillars needed for true excellence! Don't forget about the mental, friends!

So true, playing calm is the only way to play. Your mind is so much more clear when you're enjoying the game ive noticed when Im calm and enjoying the game, you see the battlefield a lot more, and understand faster what your opponent is trying to do to you and what i always use to tell myself and other people is, "don't think, just react". This series of videos is a great resource to those of us who aren't professional gamers. I've been playing BF1 since it came out on xbox, but not normally playing FPS, and since NO ONE speaks in game, it's been frustrating to develop any kind of strategy to compete with the big boys. Hopefully now I can at least practice toward a goal, instead of just practicing how to be average.

My biggest barrier to improving in BF1 was anxiety, not lack of skill or experience. I would panic in chaotic situations, either freezing up completely or randomly flailing around and spamming my weapons, both of which usually got me killed. The only way for me to get over it was to play extremely aggressively and basically get killed over, and over, and over again until it was no longer a new or unusual experience. It wasn't good for my stats, but it helped my sense of confidence and balance. I'm still working on it. Remaining calm when you're being bayonet charged by a screaming madman and simultaneously machine gunned by the Level 120 arty truck camper can be pretty difficult.

Good video TBM. I'm an oldschool FPS, competed with Clan9 in the late nineties and was ranked top five in Q1, therefore i'm twitchy as hell when it comes to drag and snapshots but what really surprised me with BF1 (my first BF game) was the depth of the battles, there are so many angles of engagement and possible tactics in this game that makes it rather unique. this made me a noob in this game with a rather short life expectancy, what turned it around for me was playing medic and starting to look at the minimap, the medic forces you to play rather defencive seeing that you cannot drop more than 1-3 players (depending on weapon) before a reload and at each reload you have the time to look at the minimap and plan your next move and decide another peak or fall back. After 5 month forcing medic play i feel like i'm backish to the form/success which i was accustomed to when playing arenas and TDM games. Might not work for others but worth a try if someone is Stuck on a skill plateau.
@TheBrokenMachine7 жыл бұрын
" there are so many angles of engagement and possible tactics in this game that makes it rather unique. " Agreed. This can be tough thing to grasp, even for seasoned fps veterans. It's competitive, yet casual at the same time. Difficult thing to achieve.

Can you provide a guide on how to get the best connection (ie hit reg)? I rarely get mad during games with good hit reg, but I get absolutely infuriated once I've figured out that my opponents seem to have a 1 second advantage on me. The game starts to feel unfair and that I'm being cheated despite making good plays (or plays I think are good). Examples include suffering from "bullet packeting" where you walk around a corner and die instantly to a Lewis Gun, or emptying a shotgun into a fast moving player and only getting 8 dmg with chest shots. Please talk about this, as it one of the "most important" aspects of online FPS games for new players.
