There's also word "Родина" (homeland), which often used with a word "мать" (mother) like in "родина мать", and used to be translated as "motherland", which isn't wrong, but means "mother land" i.e. land that gave birth, not "land of mothers", like "fatherland". So it basically two different words. tl;dr: motherland - land that gave birth, fatherland - land of ancestors, fathers.

Well in WW1 due to the materials of the plane and how fast they moved, infantry men did use their rifles to pretty good effect. I mean the red barron was taken down by a crack shot from the ground. Anyhow I give ammo all the time, but my teamates run away like its a grenade.
