Battlefield 3 QUICK TIP 1 - M224 Mortar Tips and Tricks

As a certain user pointed out, and I've also seen this on the field, you CAN NOT use mortars from the safety of your base. The problem with this, is that if the enemy starts to baserape you, you don't have many options of pushing them back. In this situation, the mortar had no equal.

It's super easy to predict the movements of Tanks, especially in the Noshahr Canal map because it many tight spaces and you have no choice but to go in circs

I think you forgot something very imporant. Smoke. Press 2 when using a mortar and you shoot smoke mortars. They have diffrent reload times, so you can use both to great effect.

Yeah, I know what you mean. On top of "nerfing' the mortar, they made it so that people can't sit in their spawns when using it. You have to get out of your protected spawn area to deploy the mortar now, post patch.

@starstalkerz Hey thanks for the comment and all the support man! You're right, Seine crossing in an excellent map to carry out this strategy. Grand Bazaar is also a very good map, especially the alleyway where the enemy is forced to run down a narrow path. It's great for mortar strikes!

Siene crossing is the best place ive found to use mortars. Extremely easy there, good tip with the MCOM :D

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just that people used to complain a lot about how strong mortars were and the fact that you could use the mortars from within the safety of your base. So, DICE went overboard and nerfed it big time! This is the problem with DICE, they can't find a sweet spot to balance the game; they either overdo it or don't do enough.

Thanks for the support! People requested this video saying that they had a hard time getting kills with the mortar; they only got hit markers. So, when I made this video, I focused on showing how to increase the lethality of the mortar. That's why I left out the smoke rounds. But you're right, the smoke rounds are very useful, especially when used near objectives.

@deathbounce It's actually not as hard as you'd think. Capture flags on conquest, plant bombs on M-COM stations and drop ammo crates. Dropping ammo crates is probably the easiest way to score with the support kit.

@TheJasonSPD That's true man! It's a good idea to keep moving and switching between the mortar and your gun. If you stay on the mortar for too long you're an easy target! Thanks for the comment! :)

@RiKKuXd28 Yeah, sometimes you need a little bit of luck. You should use the mortar selectively. Use it when people are camping or when they're capturing flags and in areas where there's a bottle neck (i.e. where a lot of people clump up, like doorways etc...). That way you'll have time to get a second shot off before they have a chance to leave. Keep practicing, eventually you'll get the timing right. Good luck!

@hatemonkey Great idea man. I knew about it when I was making the video. But, people requested a mortar video from me saying that they couldn't get kills with it, only hit markers. That's why I focused on being lethal with the mortar and overlooked the smoke. But, you're right, the smoke is very useful especially near objectives. Thanks!

Thanks for patching this Dice. Now it takes 3 hits to kill, never mind the long reload and poor accuracy. All the more reason to go use Assault kit! Oh yeah! Assault rifles! Nice tips though, I'll be more selective with my shots, and change positions every minute or two.

@kyle22461 Thanks man... Yeah, I should have said it can take "up to" 5 shots with an RPG to take out a tank. My fault. But I am aware of the tank damage distribution though. I made a video of the damage distribution for all land vehicles in detail. It's "Quick Tip 7 - Destroy All Vehicles." Check that out... I can give you a link to it if you want.

@babakoo2u No problem. Choose your shots wisely, and make sure to take out the enemy mortar before he sees you. It's also a good idea not to stay on the mortar for too long. Use the mortar, get some kills, then use your gun for a while, then switch back to the mortar. Good luck!

Totally agree with KENDOV.The mortar pre-patch gave you @ least a fighting chance when you were being spawn butt rammed!! Awful decision by dice who have done nothing to stop base spawn killing(especially by jets & heli's) which is ruining the game.

If they wanted to nerf it really what they should have done is the opposite of what they did. Only use it IN the spawn area to try and prevent spawn camping by turning it into a purely defensive weapon.

After you fire the HE mortar then select the SMOKE mortar then fire it

@MastahMante There was a patch after I made this video. But, I don't know if they nerfed the Mortar in that patch. I've used the mortar recently to take out enemy mortars; it still kills with one hit. I guess you have to get a direct hit to kill now; maybe the patch nerfed the splash damage.

Is it unlimited rounds or do you have an ammunition kit placed near you in all the video clips? This is a great video. But don't lose those captions! Its hard to understand you, and if you didn't have the on-screen text, I wouldn't watch it. Maybe work on making yourself even more clear. They really nerfed the Mortar. Took me 2 shots to kill people on hardcore with it. About 5 to destroy a tank. At least I got the unlock for the gun in the assignments section.

Yeah, its easy to kill a mortar gun. Just run mortar on your support class. Kill him. Then carry on gunning. Because if you stay mortaring he will just get you back. Easy

since the patch - the mortars are useless lol 3 shells for 1 fucking soldier lol + 3-5sec for everyshot. its useless now and IMPOSSIBLE to unlock the first light machinegun because of it
