Some of the tankers burned 9-10 times during the war, 2-3 times a day. Came back home no matter what.

9 July 24 Outstanding coverage of a major operation. Presentation of content similar to Osprey Texts: Plans Commanders, Forces, Equipment, Battle Narrative, and conclusion gave a thorough understanding of the Campaign. Maps were suitable for the operational level of war. However, using existing film was one drawback. Repeated use of identical film sequences and dark imagery in many places detracted from the presentation. Many times, the film images were completely black. More operational graphics would provide a better understanding of the extent of the fighting. Armored fighting in and around Kursk and Provkohovaka was not once called the greatest tank battle in history, leaving one to wonder why not?

You’re out numbered, the defenders have plenty of time to prepare and they know what you’re going to do. Doesn’t sound like a recipe for victory.

Apart from the use of drones and satellites etc, you can see many of the same Russian strategies and tactics on display in the current Ukraine SMO. Well-prepared defences and attrition of the enemy forces by luring them into kill zones and then going on the counter-offensive. With the Russians' seemingly endless production capability tipping the balance.

Stalin told Churchill the attack on Italy was pointless but it seems it did have some affect of relief. but the truth is the war was won in the East, and this is coming from an American

BRIEF REPLY: GENERALLISSIMO STALIN WAS ONLY PARTIALLY CORRECT RE: THE WESTERN ALLIED ATTACK ON SOUTHERN ITALY. THE LATE PRIME MINISTER CHURCHILL TOLD STALIN AT A KREMLIN MEETING THAT HE CONSIDERED THE ITALY ASSAULT AS A MAIN ATTEMPT TO DESTROY THE SOFT UNDERBELLY OF HITLER'S MEDITERRENEAN FORCES. EVENTUALLY ROME WAS LIBERATED AS A RESULT OF THE WAR IN ITALY IN SPRING 1943 & WAS A PRELUDE TO THE NORMANDY LANDING ON JUNE 6, 1944. GREAT BRITAIN EMERGED FROM THE WAR NEARLY BANKRUPT, & W/ A LOT OF THEIR EMPIRE STARTING TO DISENTEGRATE, BUT WOULD REEMERGE AS A BRITISH COMMONWEALTH OF NATIONS." MANY BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE ON THIS FACET OF WW-2'S WESTERN ALLIED WAR STRATEGY.

Stalin wanted the US/British forces to concentrate their effort north which obviously would be realized in June 1944. He had his reasons, relief for his efforts in the east being one, and of course his long- range plan to carve up Europe for himself. Stalin used FDR and Churchill for great gain; Churchill realized it too late, FDR never did. (Without Lend-Lease Britain nor the USSR would have survived a concentrated German onslaught early on.) As too your comment on the outcome, the war was won in the air and the destruction of German industry, if we really get down to a single effort.

The very moment German troops stepped foot into the Soviet Union, the clock began ticking down on the Third Reich.

That clocked started ticking as soon as Britain didn't accept peace after the fall of France. Britain would blockade Germany of oil for any future conquests

Nah, it was the moment Italy invaded Greece, else Germany would have taken Moscow before winter set in.
@TheLeadSled

@@SpaceTravel1776 as much as Italy hampered the German effort in World War 2 I still think the invading the Soviet Union was the biggest factor in their losing the second world war. Also having a leader in Adolf Hitler played a massive role as well, his meddling in battlefield tactics destroyed so much of their ability to wage war, especially ignoring seasoned Generals like Manstein and Rommel with orders like no retreat whatsoever, as well leaving the 6th Army to there doom, that was a big hit.

@@TheLeadSled Nah, Italy's invasion of Greece delayed German's invasion of Russia and stole resources as Germany needed to save the fake Caesar Mussolini. This lead to Germany getting bogged down in winter conditions 100 miles short of Moscow. Moscow was the center of supply chains, transport, logistics, etc. Just look at a map, not hard to see. Germany could have encircled Moscow and then game over.

That’s what happens when a Corporal makes decisions for generals. Besides the Soviets had Brilliant Commanders (Zhukov, Rokosovsky, Konyev) and motivated soldiers after all of the atrocities that Germans inflicted on their people and homeland.

@@randylahey1822 I think the documentary was made in the early 2000's and reflects the Soviet mythology about Provka which had already been debunked by then. But This channel posted the documentary two days ago without any contextual explanation about this. They should know better.

I remember not so long ago, as an American exchange student living in Germany, I happened to see an enormous convoy of flatbed train cars passing by, transporting countless camouflaged tanks, and thinking it looked totally absurd. They still manufacture tanks? The idea that anyone could still have any use for this silly looking thing, topped with a ridiculous gun turret, like in those WWII movies, I thought, wow. That’s certainly a sight you don’t see every day. And here we are, now we see this and more, it’s an everyday thing…
