Nice video, clean concise and to the point. There are alot of people who make youtube videos and feel like they need to ramble for 5 minutes before getting to the point of the video. You have a new subscriber

Maneuver through Trees in the Northeast with all of the Briars for a unit caught in ambush would have an extremely hard time closing with bayonets in any good order. Especially when the northeastern forest where still virgin forest.

Remember many of our early forest areas were tall, with heavy canopies, wide trunks and little undergrowth. Our forests were darker and made you more easily concealable with the trees in the subdued darkened forests. The indians used this to their advantage also when ambushing settlers in the woods. The forest really didn't open up until settlers started clearing land for cabins and growing fields. It was said that and Ohio squirrel could cross many areas in the state in the tree tops and never touch the ground as the tree canopies were that thick.

Thanks for the video. I've said for years that fighting and soldiers/militia used a lot of commonsense and knowledge of terrain, cover, and concealment in conflicts. This has also been a point of contention that I have with developments at Fort Ti and Battle Road. Many were veterans of the French & Indian War and would have/did use the equipment they were issued and retained - uniforms, gear, etc. and equipment that they had adapted to their environment. Perhaps later in the Rev War there was more of the standardization but even today we have, within a range, personalization of equipment that we carry in the field. Even to the use of tomahawks today. I'm curious what your background is that you referenced in this video....

@@thedeerskindiary It's a lot more interesting than others! And harder.... Thanks and I'm enjoying your videos. One of these days, when I slow down, I want to get some good, tanned deerskin and make F&I woodland leggings, a shirt, and breeches or pants.

Unfortunately my 6x gg uncle Joseph Dickerson who died fighting with my 6x ggf Thomas D. at Freemans Farm on Sept. 19th. 1777 chose too small of a tree. This is documented in the Draper Manuscripts as( died while hiding behind a small sapling). this occured in the Saratoga campain while serving as riflemen under Morgan.

Southern guerillas used these tactics in the Civil War. Got passed down from their Grandfathers. They knew what worked.
