The bunny hopping strategy never died, because it is a tactical advantage no matter how silly you may think it looks. You move faster if you time your jumps properly allowing you to get to points faster than your opponent. For example, the race to B on metro.

The SOFLAM in Battlefield 3 is a laser designator used to mark enemy targets such as enemy tanks and other vehicles. The SOFLAM is unlocked and used by the Recon class in Battlefield 3. When a target has been painted, other classes such as the Engineer can lock and fire a Javelin missile towards it.

I agree. BF3 doesn't really have an evolved cover mechanic, let alone a cover-transfer mechanic that would go along with it. Hopping cover-cover or cover-vehicle is necessary, and is a way to get around being a huge target for 2 seconds while sprinting.
