However, the initial attempts of the British to invade Mysore met with failures, and they suffered heavy losses.
In April 1767, a British detachment, under the command of Captain Brook, advanced towards Vellore through the Ghat road, a route that was considered difficult to navigate. Meanwhile, Hyder Ali, who had received intelligence reports of the British advance, quickly mobilized his army and set out to intercept the British detachment.
The two armies met at Pattapettai, which was a crucial point on the Ghat road. The British, who were outnumbered, positioned themselves on a small hill overlooking the road, hoping to gain an advantage in the battle. The Mysore army, led by Hyder Ali himself, attacked the British from three sides, hoping to overwhelm them with their superior numbers.
The battle was fierce and intense, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. The British, who were armed with muskets and bayonets, held their ground and repulsed several Mysore attacks. However, the Mysore army, which consisted of cavalry and infantry, kept up the pressure and launched a final assault on the British position.
