These pistols are really cool, and they are surprisingly good shooters. I bought mine from Simpson's Ltd. through my local FFL. The gun was exactly as described; it has an excellent bore, good finish, and fires 9mm, so I don't have to fly to Serbia or wherever to get ammo. Lol. They are not as front-heavy as you'd think. The skinny barrel doesn't weigh much, and the magazine is close to your hand. A S&W 686 with a 4-inch barrel is more front heavy. It's nice to keep these old 'ladies' busy occasionally. --Old Guy

The Mauser c96 is one of the few things I would impulse buy and have no regrets whatsoever, so long as it's in working condition. Don't have ammo for it yet? Fine by me. Don't even have a holster? Not a problem. Whether it be a German Red 9 or Shansei 45 acp, I would still get it.

@JAdg75oo00 The Mauser Broomhandle was unbelievably popular during China's Republican/"Warlord" era. An unlicensed copy known as the Shanxi Type 17 began production back in 1928, but due to labor and material shortages combined with a high degree of hand fitting for each pistol, less than 10k were produced by the end of the Civil War (1949). There are some videos out there to be seen of them. Hopes this helps😊

C-96s are definitely more accurate and reliable when using the shoulder stock. It is recommended to replace the springs if they are weak. Wolff Gunsprings makes them still!

If you aren't picky about it being recinished or having some parts replaced, you can definitely find one for below 1500.

I’d like to own one Rule of thumb for me when it comes to collecting multiple types of guns it’s best to get at least one example from that particular era

I have 3. One for showing, matching numbers. It has been punched out to 9mm. One overhauled by Gibs. The shooter and one Bolo witch is a total pig with a shoot out barrel. It was heavily polished and reblued also.

I don't know if this seems true on a regular basis. However, I had heard that when some people get hold of a Mauser C96, they will tries to convert it into Han Solo's lookalike DL-44 blaster from Star Wars. I've heard some would do it but, they make it sound like the practice is a common thing. Also in addition, devalues the Mauser C96.

Maybe back in the day but I don’t think anyone would want to take a $2-3k pistol and devalue it like that

Lol figured someone would ask! It was at a local Cabelas some years ago, it needed a few parts. It was already a parts mix master, had been parkerized, and still needed a couple of parts to make it function correctly. Ran pretty smooth once fixed

Incense Waterfall advertising??? Who do the think watches this channel? I briefly had a Red 9 Broomhandle. I had to buy the cheapest one I could find. It was ugly and it had function problems. At one point the hammer would not fall so I has to take it back to the shop. They did not charge me for repairs. Its a nifty gun and all but it has its drawbacks, in the end, not fun to shoot. I sold it back to the shop to buy something else, a MAK 90 I think. That is fun to shoot. Oh yeah...PULVERIZED !!!

Haha I don’t pick the commercials, it can be random sometimes! I had a C96 that had problems (it was a parts mix master somebody put together, the one at 1:02) but I figured out what parts it needed and fixed it. Shot smooth after that.

@@BattlefieldCurator Multiple people told me not to take it apart myself. The only screw in the gun keeps the grips on. This was the nineties mind you before you could watch tutorial videos on how to do things. These days I might have a crack at taking it apart. I’m much better at small mechanics now like coaster brake hubs and the other guns I tore down and rebuilt.
