Thanks for making me give this game another look! Bought it a while ago and only gave it a quick spin. There is a lot more going on to the game then i first picked up from its simple appearance.

I've watched your plays so far and this game is rather intriguing. So far i can't see much that could make a faction feel unique, but I'm happy to be corrected.

There are different types of nation and they do play quite differently, for example the Tribes are much more difficult to play as but have different mechanics, and Rome has unique stuff they can do too.

Pontic archers are a provencial unit so you need to have the pontus province. A good strategy for montain terrain is to have no clumsy units like chariots or heavy troops and to have skirmicher or archer behind your frontline troops to maximise the small frontage. The problem if you start loosing many times against a nation army in montainous terrain their units gain experience (more experience equal dice bonus) while you don't. Even if you are richer with bigger army you will not be able to win given the small frontage. This can be frustrating ( This is how armenia manage to historicly hold against powerful neighbour. Thank you for your playthrough it s very entertaining, i share the love of this game with you.

The decadence and legacy game mechanics I think are rather unique. And help to keep me interested through the campaign because getting big makes for it's own set of new issues you have to contend with as a result.

AGEOD’s Civil War II is great, still IMO the best American Civil War grand strategy game out there. It’s very complex but that’s a lot of the charm.

Yeah I had some bad luck there I think, in the previous game I took that with the same force on my first go, although it did take two rounds of combat as the first was a stalemate

Haven't played this one yet on my channel, although it's often hard to do grand strategy games due to the sheer amount of videos needed for an episodic series if not guide or review video. Atm though on the side I'm doing a confederate play on Grand Tactician - Civil War, doing some Victory & Glory Napoleon and recently updated my Napoleon Total War with the NTW3 (mod) so much better with that mod, I did start an Emperator play through with there mod 'Invictus' which is a must otherwise some silly stuff happens, also some battles on Scourge of War Waterloo. 😂 I did try Agod's cival war but found it hard to get into and enjoy. I'm too fussy in my older age although all games have good/great points they all have equally bad ones or stuff missing or want different still looking perfection I never get unless I made my own strategy game. Nice quality content - thanx I gonna try watch your play series of this one although I see it stopped on Ep 9? LG

@@battlemode yeah certain big games and games styles and real life for gamers isn’t I’m easy I know - I’m enjoying the content & will watch more when I get time in between my own stuff - I like many games styles but 4-5 types some very different are my go to like war strategy, city building, work sims or nice story driven solo playing action/adventure games - bot all are easy put online though - keep up the good work 👍

You seem to not be aware but because you have the pontus province formed, you are sharing production across all your regions. Therefore when you moved pops off of infrastructure production for pop growth, you lost production in your other region for thr garum shop.

I'm used to Total War games for ancient grand strategy games. This looks rather more complex. Great vid.

It's definitely more complex as a strategy game, it does lack the RTT combat but if you really want controllable combat, you can play the battles in Field of Glory 2 if you like!

@@zakalwe2240 They're too time consuming. I do love Field of Glory II but I don't really like playing it alongside Empires, I like the in-built autobattler in Empires a lot.

Very nice series that helped get into Empires. Thank you! Regarding other AGEOD games. I played Alea Jacta Est. And I like its tactical side in general. What I don't like is how AI cheats to survive - various attrition rules and such simply don't apply to it (in a game built around supply and attrition no less!), which ruins my enjoyment. (You make some great tactical moves to push the enemy to winter in the mountains or trap a large army in a city, and... they carry on just fine whereas your army would've withered in months.) Some scenarios also feel unbalanced and unwinnable. So it's kind of an ugly duckling. There's a swan somewhere underneath, but it's not quite there. I could never get Pride of Nations to work. Performance on a modern machine is so bad as to render it unplayable. But I do want to try Revolution Under Siege. I really love Imperator Rome II (EDIT: Imperator Rome 2019, it doesn't have "II" in the name) in its modern state with a few mods. It has issues of its own of course (built-in anti-blobbing / decadence is a bit too easy to circumvent, lacks flavor and various factions feel a bit too samey, late-game trade is too tedious to micromanage, personally I take issue with linear pop growth), but overall a fun civ builder. The map and general presentation make it the most beautiful historical grand strategy imo. That map, omg, I sometimes boot the game just to marvel at it. :)

@@battlemode I keep accidentally calling it "Rome II" because I'm old enough to remember "Europa Universalis: Rome". :) I mean that same Imperator Rome (2019). There were major improvements with patch 2.0 that pushed its recent reviews above 80%. Personally I enjoy playing it with most popular flavor / balance mods (Invictus, Better UI, more character traits, more dangerous diseases; FMO if you're feeling adventurous just to name a few).

as do I, and all the DLC you need just make sure you are not missing anything. I am done with PDX I can't stand the 19.99 dollar DLC each month or so. Now a game like this I don't mind paying for a bit of maybe 5-10 dollar DLCs that add new start dates and a handful of new nations. @@battlemode

I need to double check but I think it's Phalanxes that have the Mountain penalty, while armoured hoplites will also get a penalty in rough terrain, as do most Heavy Infantry

That's quite informative playthrough. I'm looking forward for some more information about trading. Would be nice to see more content from other Ageod games. Personally i'm intrested in "Wars of Succesion" and "Wars of Napoleon" I have one question about the game. How can i attack a region on the island? Do i need to build the ships and pack the army to invade it?

There are two types of goods that go into production: Required and Bonus. Required goods are traded if possible, or bought at 3x the price if not. Bonus goods are not traded, but count for bonuses if this or adjacent Province produces them or imports them as required Goods. Trading has a range and appeal. Range is how many Provinces away can be imported from, Appeal is which source of goods is picked over the others. Internal trade generates money, because you pay half the price, while getting the full value.

Weapons depot is a mistake! should have gone for road! the upgrades are great, better movement and trade range. The farms are a good choice, taking them nearly always as they also gives a level II zero slot upgrade. The guard tower is also good if your neighbours are raiders, the 3 garrison is also really nice.

Ah but you missed the game I played where I got wrecked because I couldn't get enough troops out to defend myself! Not making that mistake again!

@@battlemode Hmm, only other factors has limited my army building, example the max number of units you are allowed to build in a province each turn! I consider most equipment building most useful in MP.
