If it's just a big tripping competition, then go for the legs. Sweep with the polarms. What is the use in bashing them with strikes that do nothing? trip each other

I'd assume doing that would in turn put you at risk of being tripped yourself. The strategy you see being used most here is to overwhelm the enemy while locking legs and trying to throw them off balance. It's almost more of a wrestling match, with the strikes being more of a method of tiring/distracting. Plus it looks more fun this way, as the intent is to mirror medieval foot tournaments.
