The Battleship was amazing, I love history so getting to see all of what you showed was fascinating to me. Thank you Stephen for filming so much of the ship, I can’t speak for all of your viewers but I know I appreciated it.

I'm just a small town girl from Eastern NC, been traveling in China since last year. It's been months since I last saw my home. This got me feeling a little teary; I've always loved the battleship.

16:58 in the midst of learning so much about a battleship, a sudden fallout reference caught me choking on spit in laughter lol i didn't think i would enjoy a tour of a battleship, but this vlog shows that there is a lot of stuff to it. it's cool how it's a portable community with all the necessities for the serving navy.

Next time you're in Wilmington, check out The Oceanic, the food is sublime! Man, that ship always gave me the willies growing up. We had a field trip every couple of years when I was in school, and I never strayed far from my group, haha.

About 9 years ago, I took a trip to Mobile, AL to visit some family. We took a tour of the USS Alabama (BB-60), and the USS Drum, a submarine. Both were super neat and are worth visiting!

The Battleship is really awesome alone, but there’s so many cool events hosted there too. They have summer movies on the deck, a Halloween ghost ship, and recently an annual July 4 theatre production. It’s awesome!

I haven't toured a battleship before but I did get to visit the Tillamook Air Museum on the road trip that I took last summer. While it wasn't as impressive as that battleship there was still a lot of interesting war planes that we got to see and we even got to go inside a guppy.

Yes! I'm pretty sure I've been on HMS Belfast in London but also in Belfast, I've been round both SS Nomadic (serving as a tender for White Star Line and Titanic - the only surviving ship of WSL) and also SS Caroline, the only surviving ship from the Battle of Jutland in WW1. Going round all of them provided very educational experiences.

All I've ever had the time to visit is the Intrepid, and that was for a Make a Wish trip. It was nice to see, but CV-11 certainly wasn't as open as BB-55. I'll have to visit this vessel if I ever have the chance.

My grandfather was in the navy. One day he was on the deck and they had to fire the guns without warning as he was standing right under one. His hearing was permanently damaged after that, to the point that now at 95 years old you have to literally shout at him for him to hear you clearly.

I wonder how many ships have been named the USS (insert state name here). Like, there are only 50 states and probably hundreds of ships in our Navy, so it feels like they might duplicate a few. My brother was stationed on the USS Tennessee, a submarine. Makes me wonder if there is a USS Tennessee carrier/battleship.
@MissAshCash976 жыл бұрын
Some ships are named for major cities/capitals in the States or after important people, like the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42) aircraft carrier or the USS Salem (CA-139) heavy cruiser named for Salem, MA. Though some names have been reused when either the previous ship with the same name has been sunk or retired. This is what I've noticed
@Fooseeker6 жыл бұрын
There isn't another USS Tennessee, just the sub.
@zairn56856 жыл бұрын
Firestar1992 Actually, there was another USS Tennessee, a battleship during WWII. She was scrapped following the war. There was also a CSS Tennessee, a Confederate ironclad that was sold for scrap metal after being captured. Which adds another wrinkle; consider the Confederate ships also named after states. The CSS Virginia and CSS Alabama were notable. Unrelated, but fun fact; Franklin Buchanan commanded CSS Tennessee and CSS Virginia. He apparently had no relation to President Buchanan, though.
@chidagamer64976 жыл бұрын
@@MissAshCash97 Or like the USS Indianapolis, which I remember because I used to live in Indianapolis; and also it's the ship that Quint talks about in that one scene in "Jaws," which is one of my favorite movies. What he says about it is true, incidentally: it was sunk after delivering the parts of the atom bomb, and some of the survivors of the initial sinking were attacked by sharks.

Yeah being tall and being on a Ship doesn't mesh well, when I was on a vacation in California Dad and I took a tour of the USS Midway and while below deck I forgot to duck one time and my forehead slammed into the bulkhead. Stephen Please! It's a ship. I know it seems silly, but calling it a boat would be like calling you a married nerd who likes taking selfies. It really destroys the grandeur and complexity of the distinction. Sorry, I just had to.
@guguig97466 жыл бұрын
As someone who's not a native speaker, I don't see the difference between ship and boat. Could you elaborate ? I'm always looking forward for new knowledge when it comes to languages.
@Blastercadre6 жыл бұрын
Glad to! Boat is the more generic term, and has a connotation of being lesser than ship. The word ship is more specific. Ships usually have the capacity to transport cargo, passengers, and potentially boats, as well as tending to be larger than boats. Large enough ships can carry other ships. Large enough boat can carry other boats, but boats can never carry a ship. Examples are most Navy vessels i.e. battleships, carriers, cruisers, and destroyers as well as civilian vessels i.e. container ships and cruise ships. Hope that helps.
@guguig97466 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the answer!! Re-listening to the vlog, I feel like Stephen used the word ship more than boat, but either way, I'm glad to have learned new things. I'll use the words properly from now on.
