Join us on an epic journey down the Delaware River as the legendary USS New Jersey embarks on its next chapter! Departing from its dock in Camden, New Jersey, this famed battleship, steeped in history, is en route to the Philadelphia Navy Yard for some much-needed maintenance.
Guided gracefully by tugboats, the USS New Jersey made a pit stop at the Paulsboro Marine Terminal to prepare for dry docking, a crucial step in its maintenance process. In just six days, it will reach its final destination at the Navy Yard.
This extensive maintenance work, anticipated to last approximately two months, is a testament to the commitment to preserving this iconic vessel. Among the planned repairs are repainting the hull, addressing the anti-corrosion system, and conducting thorough inspections.
Commissioned in the 1940s in Philadelphia, the USS New Jersey boasts a rich legacy, having served for over 50 years before its retirement in 1991. Since 2001, it has captivated visitors as a floating museum.
With a storied history spanning World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, the Cold War, and conflicts in the Middle East, this battleship holds the distinction of being the most decorated in Navy history. It's steamed more miles, fought in more battles, and fired more shells in combat than any other battleship.
USS New Jersey is slated to return to its permanent home on the Camden waterfront in June 2024, ready to welcome visitors once again for tours.
Subscribe and stay tuned for updates on this as we will be visiting her in dry dock.

Being Canadian I love watching these grand ladies. Such a beautiful ship with a threat of immense power. May she live forever. And honor all those who served aboard her

This battleship New Jersey was my Dad’s ship during the Korean War conflict. My dad is 89 years old and still remembers being aboard this ship as an 18 yr old young man. He traveled all over the world to various ports while working in the engine room. BB62 would be his home from 1952 thru 1954. The memories made for my father as a young man aboard the most decorated battleship will ever live in his heart & soul. Thank you for this video. I’m even more compelled to go and visit this magnificent ship!

We appreciate your dedication, time and effort it takes to make these videos. It felt like we were all there to experiment this moment minus the ceremonial brochure of course. Keep up the good work"".

I have been following your reports for the past two weeks and I'd like to compliment you on your grasp of the facts---there have been way too many reporters and spokespeople who have stumbled over the important details! Also, outstanding drone coverage of the ship as she went under the WW bridge--you got the perfect angle to show how tight of a squeeze that was!

Excellently done! Beautifully shot, edited, and narrated. Toward the end flying that close to the upper parts of the ship with that wind whipping must have been really something - but then again I’m imaging trying to fly a small airplane that close. Maybe the drone steadies itself more automatically?

Thx so much for this video Joey! I had the privilege of visiting the USS Iowa, BB-61, at the port of LA back in 2017. NJ definitely brought back some memories! We are so fortunate that all 4 Iowa class battleships still exist as museum ships! For those who would like to know, the other two are Missouri (BB-63) at Pearl Harbor and Wisconsin (BB-64) at Norfolk.

Thanks Joey. I watch some of the live feed and was amazed that only one tug boat was doing all of the pulling once it was out in the channel .Said it was traveling up to 3.4 knots or around 4 MPH. another amazing fact is the 500,000 gallons of water they will pump into tanks guess close to bottom of the ship. You would think that much water would sink any ship. Never heard how much the fuel tanks held for the boilers.
@SomeRandomHuman717
@SomeRandomHuman717 2 ай бұрын
The 500,000 gallons of ballasting water will be pumped into the peak tanks, they are the forward most variably filled tanks on the ship. In museum configuration (no ammunition, stores, fuel, oil, supplies and personnel and their equipment) the bow of the ship rides about 9-10 ft higher than if it were normally loaded. When going into drydock, having the ship that far out of trim would put too much stress on the aft portion of the ship (keel and skegs) as she sits down on the drydock blocks. Ballasting the ship with the added 2,000 tons (500,000 gal) of water will get her trim down to about 3"9" high in the bow, which is within calculated parameters and should be fine to land on the blocks. The stated fuel capacity of Iowa-class ships is about 2.4 million gallons. At the most economical cruising speed, that yields a range of approx 17,000 miles. Remember, fuel oil on a battleship is more than just go juice for the ship itself; their Task Force destroyer escorts would often refuel from the battleships, and liquid loaded tanks strategically placed around the ship function as designed-in components of the ship's torpedo defense system.

Scariest place to be on the New Jersey is the armored control position up in the conning tower. A round might not penetrate but you will be a red mist afterwards.

Wow! absolutely brilliant, from Jamie in the UK. But, what is the name of the tall ship on the far bank of the Delaware River? A tall ship I've missed in my research...
@WildwoodVideoArchive
@WildwoodVideoArchive 2 ай бұрын
You are referring to the Moshulu? (The tall blue one) she was built in Scotland in 1904. She was in the United States when World War I broke out, and so the United States just confiscated it.

Thank you. I will Google her tomorrow! I also noticed another tall ship on the far bank, with a white hull, dis-masted & covered with tarps. I'm an ex-professional yachtsman (large sailing yachts) & have a passion for tall ships & classic yachts, amongst many other interests, don't get me started on WW2!
