yamato behemoths yes, Bismarck no. the allies has ships the same size and with stronger cannons, the italian battleship class Littorio-class was almost as big, the USN's Iowa Class was bigger and the british battleship vanguard was almost as big, for guns the bismarck had 8 15", the British had the nelson class with 9 16", and the 3 newest USN's Classes all had 9 16" (North Carolina class, South Dakota class and Iowa class). so again i agree on yamato being a behemoth, but not bismarck or its sister ship tirpitz, they werem modern battleship overhyped due to propeganda.

And this scene didn't show in Japanese reruns either. because it was made WITHOUT Leiji Matsumoto's consent (and made where he's not present), he's traumatized because his childhood that he lived through WW2 from beginning to end and himself a son to Imperial Army Pilot (which didn't get A6M Zero) who did survived the war and chose not to join Kamikaze unit. in addition he didn't want rightwing politicians to misuse the anime as propaganda tool or any other political ends. that's why in the reruns, the scene was reduced to Yamato shooting its main guns in anger, and that's it. no sinkin' scene beyond narrative mentionings. I'm sure that this scene was pre-edited before export to the USA. also by Leiji's orders.

Yamoto was a cowardly ship. It tucked tail and fled at Samar when Taffy 3 and that valiant group of destroyer escorts engaged that massive Japanese force. The tiny Johnston fought like a battleship and the vaunted Yamoto disengaged after sustaining minimal damage. To the bottom of the ocean where it belongs.

Fun Fact,But not quite fun to the people on Yamato... Yamato Was Bombered by nearly 400 Bombing runs, The Most Bombing runs to a battleship in history... but only 1/4 of the aircrafts made to Yamato as Japanese tried their best to protect it...100 Bombs/Torpedoes were launched on it (Not counting any misses as there is 100% surety half of them might be only hit) Never seen US such frightened to anything other than this Mighty ship lol

２１９９には、このシーンとガミラス本星での決戦後、古代が「・・・・・愛し合うべきだった‼」のセリフのシーンを、ぜひ入れて欲しかったんですがね。 実際の大和はバラバラになってますが、ヤマトは４０年ぐらい前、大和が発見される前に制作されたアニメですから、ある程度の間違いはヤムを得ません。 まぁ～大和が沈没した時に、何処かの弾薬庫が爆発したのは分かってましたから、意外にバラけてるのは見当がつきますけどね。 そのてん、２１９９はガミラスへの偽装となっており、大和の件はガミラスには関係無いので、知るはずもありません。

タイムスリップで過去の自分と出逢う➝どちらかか、両方が消滅（歴史が2つの同じモノの存在を認めない）というもの。 ヤマトの場合、過去に戻ってアメリカ軍を負かす➝沖縄特攻で沈む筈の大和が沈まない➝宇宙戦艦が誕生しない➝ヤマト消滅＝もしくは大和消滅というSF原理（あくまでSF考証なので、実際にはどうかは不明だが）。

表向きは軍機で秘密のはずですが、大和・武蔵の名称は他の艦船の乗組員等が酒の席とかで何気なく洩らして、呉の方々は知ってたと思いますよ⁉ それと・・・・ ケチをつけるようで悪いんですが、大和を建造する時に前々からあったドックを拡張して作ったか、新たにドックを新設して大和を建造したはずですから、ドックからハミ出してなんちゃらでは修理や定期点検等はできませし、そもそも建造出来ません。(だいぶ前に読んだ本では、ドックの拡張だったと思いますが、間違えてたら済みません‼)

大和を建造したドックは、長門を建造したそれを拡張したものです。 もちろん、冒頭の様なシーンはまずあり得ませんが、そこはロマンという事で。 ちなみに艦長ですが、実際にはやや小太りで丸坊主、ヒゲは生やしていません。

John Cabbage as were a lot of ships. Though use of main cannons was usually a last resort, but in Yamato's case it was necessary since most of her dedicated AA defense had been blown away.

They're referred as Type 3 shells in the IJN. The term beehive rounds I believe originally refers to anti-personnel artillery shells used in the Vietnam war by Americans. Same principle, used in different "guns" per se.

Do note that although Type 3 rounds were anti-air rounds used by battleships, they're practically ineffective considering the main guns couldn't maneuver fast enough to be used against aircraft.
