Considering how masterful his Star Wars figures are, Stan Solo would be my first choice for making Battlestar figures. The amount of love, quality, and attention to the Kenner aesthetic found in every Stan Solo figure would make for a perfect companion to the Geek Candy Labs vehicles. Maybe we should start a petition to request that Stan Solo consider adding BSG to the production line, with the signatures serving as proof there's an active market waiting for new BSG product.

I have done a few big designs and it has taken weeks to get things right. My respect and salute to Michael for always valuing the work of fans

Thank you for spreading awareness of people like Geek Candy Labs! If not for your channel, I would not have known about this. As for all those people complaining. By the time you plan the design. Pretty much from the ground up, and tinker with it, then spend all that time and money on material printing test runs getting it to come out the way you want it. It is a huge undertaking. And that has to count for something. For doing all of that, this price is a great value. I paint and custom model miniatures myself , so I know how much work goes into these sort of things.

I do have 2 3D printers, and no matter how much some people want to talk smack, it’s not likely someone would make one for themselves. Between creating the 3D cad files, print time, and finishing time... I would rather buy one unless I was going to produce them to sell. Not to mention if you were going to produce them, then you also have to understand the moulding and casting of the individual parts. It’s definitely not easy to “just make one”... even with a printer and some know how.

As a concept artist/illustrator who works primarily in Photoshop doing 2D art I have used some 3D software for basic block modeling and lighting setups. Let me tell ya... what Robert has done here is by no means an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination and I am in awe at what he has accomplished. Anyone who says this easy has never worked in a 3D application and then applied it to the printing process. "Your mouth is running free" ....I literally LOL'd!!

That is an absolutely beautiful Mark II model, these fan replicas are getting better by the moment. I would say the financial hurdle of a 3D printer is getting lower every day, but having converted some old game models into printable representations, I can absolutely say that that process is absolutely NOT a trivial effort. A seven inch Wing Commander design I worked up took almost two days to print, and that was in a single piece. Speed and quality vary by printer, but the process to print something larger will only go up exponentially, and that's only if the print goes off perfectly on the first try. To avoid being in the risky position of having your entire multi-day run ruined halfway through, you have to break up the model into smaller components, and then things only get more and more complex from there, as now you have to test print everything to test-fit, and make iterative adjustments going forward. And let's not forget that if you want to make a good quality model, you're probably going to want some professional-level CAD software to design it, and build in the necessary part tolerances. Once you FINALLY have the "master" model in a working and printable state, that is the point where you can begin reproducing them semi-reliably. There is no guarantee that every print will go off without a hitch, and even changes in weather (temperature and humidity) can ruin a previously proven design. These are a labor of love, and even if you do get to a point where you can just hit the "Print" button to make more, there are easily thousands of hours poured into a model like this before the first copy can be sold.

the 3D printing snob don't also realize that 3D printing is damn time consuming. tiny objects take about around an hour or 2 or 3 depends on how small it is, mid size objects would take much longer, and larger and more complete stuff would take at least almost a day or so. depends of the size of the project. also even some cost friendly 3D printers are very limited to in terms of colors and etc. so I agree with Mike on his remarks with 3D printing and the snobs that run their jaws about it.

And I can not believe that there are people out there that run off at the mouth, pointing out that "you could make better on your own 3d printer".... really... Im just going to spend a few thousand, then learn the art to try and make one or two items like this. My time is more valuable than the cost of the product, so... no. I agree put up or shut up. I have been working on restoring a vintage GIJOE jeep from the 70's. Original parts are almost impossible to find. Then when you find them they are either damaged or brittle after 40+ years. I found someone online who 3d prints repo parts and does a fine job. I ordered a tailgate and mounting brackets. Yeah in a small out of the way spot it says the guys company name, but it looks good and was a nice fit. When it comes to making the toys we wish we had back in the day. Michael is right the fans are doing the best work. Though I would like 3 3/4 inch mask toys

3D printing has turned more people from consumers into producers while people may bitch at toy companies for not making the toys or accessories they want now they can make them themselves or find someone who can. Personally I think within the next 10-15 years the consumer market will change with toy companies selling printing templates rather than physical product in the shops

Yeah, I design and print 3d items as a side-hustle (repro of toys, original items, props, etc.) and anyone complaining about build quality or "they could have done this" with free models from Thingiverse... Well, I have zero patience with these folks. 3D printing is time-consuming, laborious, and the hardware is prone to print errors and breakdowns. I just had to rewire and replace a hot end for a BRAND NEW 3D printer after less than two months of use. This is a labor of love and all critics can either put up or shut up.

Refreshingly blunt as always to the haters. I really wish there was a good 4 inch scale line of classic Galactica from any era of action figures, and would totally get customs. Came very close to ordering one of these classic vipers but then I realized it will be difficult to find a Starbucks in decent shape for it. Was going to order the classic buck Rogers starfighter he created but then I realized I couldn’t even find a Buck figure on eBay. Mattel’s choices for this line still puzzle and infuriate me - No Apollo or Boomer?! No vehicles to put them in? I had every buck Rogers action figure and the draconian starfighter and earth Directorate star fighter, And they all interacted well with my Star Wars figures and vehicles back in the day. The Mattel BSG figures did not. They should have gone For 12 figures and a viper and a raider in the same scale with the initial assortment: Starbuck, Apollo, Boomer, Adama, Tigh, Athena, Ovion, Centurion, Baltar, Centurion Commander, Imperious Leader, and Lucifer. Later waves could’ve included Cain, Cassiopeia, Sheba, Jolly, Boxey, Daggitt, Serena, Count Iblis, and more aliens...And a landram and a bridge play set. Sigh. We didn’t even get a diecast replica of the Galactica itself for god’s sake!

I love the original BSG series but I love the Reboot even more. It would be a dream come true if the creator did an upscaled version for the 6" Art Asylum figures. I have way more pilots for that size ship. Lee "Apollo" Adama, Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, Hot Dog, Kat, Anders. Even better if they did a Raptor for my Boomer and Helo figures.

Micheal, I couldn’t have said it better. All of these online assholes who constantly say they could have done this better or that better have nothing to show for it on top of the fact that people like Robert and Geek Candy Labs are not only designing and making these vehicles for his own personal collection but he’s selling them to people who don’t have the time, money and know how. We can all hope that someone with the proper experience and knowledge fills that gap so that we have the figures in the correct and scale to display with those amazing vehicles that are being made by people like Robert.
