Having played table top BattleTech in the 80-90's I started to play MechWarrior Online in 2013, the Centurion was the first Mech I was able to buy with in game credits (at the time I was not spending any real money on the game) today it is a Master level Mech, named "Conquistador" and still sees front line service.

Hello Grim. Ah, the Centurion. One of the most used Mechs in the game. It is, for it's size and weight, well armored and fairly well gunned. And even though it can be destroyed by a lucky ammo bin hit, it is still a weapon system that demands and gets respect on the battlefield. An upgrade by adding CASE is almost a given once the tech becomes available. Usually, paid for by the replacement of it's standard armoring for Ferro Fiberous armor. This also allows, by the weight savings, to upgrade and replace the Heat Sinks with DSHS and add more as needed, or desired. Although, I have found the 'extra' weight savings to be more usefully employed in replacing the lasers with ER versions, and upgrading the Heat Sinks. Just my thoughts, Spoken Frank-ly

I love, how flexible this thing is (I got into BT through computer games). You want to turn it into discount Charger? - max the armor, give it some SRMs and small laser and do your best "Florida man" impression. You want to be a sniper? - give it some large lasers or PPCs and add jump jets to change position. You can give it more armour, or more ammunition or bigger AC and design will likely still be balanced and get job done.

This mech is absolutely one of my most beloved. My experience with battletech has mostly been MechWarrior Online, and MW5: Mercenaries. In both games Mighty Midas, a centurion bearing an AC-10, two medium lasers, and an srm6, proudly bears my black and gold paint scheme.

The mech performs well in Battletech from my experience, has a tendency to be destroyed due to ammo explosions though. Thanks for sharing!

To be fair, without CASE, that is an issue for all ammo dependent designs.

I just love how the vanilla centurion is basically a "i dont care if it will take some time for me to get there and that i might die in the process, but once i do i'll fuck your shit up" type of mech. Griffin, wolverine, even the enforcer (which i kinda hate for some reason) are arguably better for long fights, but centurion are always dear to my heart. Not to mention that you could basically swap the cannon for a PPC plus heatsinks and a few armor to mitigate the range weakness. The D3 tho. Ooh boy, i can slaughter a lance of atlases with that single bad boy on a good day.

I find it amusing that the autocannon is a problem. In Battletech I actually removed the autocannon, upped the armor, and gave it more SMR launchers. Its fun to learn about all these mechs.

This guy has been a mainstay in Davion forces forever. After City tech everyone had one or two and I can't tell you how often I have played one or killed one. So many different ways to be killed by one. If you don't have an iddetic memory you don't know what you are getting into. Gause rifles, ppc or what not. Sometimes your scout has to eat some fire to see how you will fight a centurion. For not being an omni mech I can't think of many mechs that have as many variants, everyone has their flavor of play and there is a centurion to fit your Cheerios if choice. The metaphorical box of chocolates, the only thing you see more of than centurion variants is burned out hulls if centurion mechs lol

Love the look of the classic version with the short beefy looking autocannon 10 and the stylish LRM 10 in the chest area. Would have been great to see the design flaws implemented into video games such as the loading ammo problems etc. The design options available to the player especially on the tabletop is amazing while still feeling very balanced and believable. The Primitive Line ha ha this is the first time I have heard about it. Sounds like something from the dark age era which I did not get into as I was starting to get heavily into the computer game versions of BATTLETECH after the Clans had been defeated during their first invasion. Thanks for watching. Battletech being already a niche kind of game, I think would appear too complicated for some if it implements elements like jamming, etc. I think the newer Battletech game implemented some things well like managing tonnage, heat sinks and ammo amounts.

Have one I run as a Marian hegemony modification, a scutum in the left hand and an added right hand with gladius, large shield and large vibroblade respectively. Can tank an ungodly amount of punishment and slice armor off a ton at a time. No room for other weapons but I do load angel ECM, Bloodhound probe and C3I. Its not a massive threat itself but unless you kill it quick todays forecast includes a chance of gauss slugs.

I'm not particularly fond of the Centurion myself though I recently re-read the Warrior novel trilogy. That said I think it was a good choice for the starter Mech in Mechwarrior 5 because the Autocannon, LRMs, and Lasers mean a newbie gets to use three of the five major anti-Mech weapon types of the era so they can get a good start on learning what weapons suit their playstyle best.

and also is the best to level up your attack skills that are energy, balistic and missile. I grinded with this mech all the way to level 10 on each for max damage.

I've kept the centurion in servicee to my Merc company in mw5. Also picked up the AL version that replaces the ac10 for a large laser. Both perform pretty well against most missions, especially with a 60 pilot.

The Centurion is one of my favorite Medium mechs. Its always had a good balance of firepower, speed, and armor. They have a low enough Bv that you can usually run one or more and in different configuration. I like it as a slashing skirmisher that usually ties up more than its numbers or tonnage, because its too dangerous to ignore, can usually hold its own for a couple of exchanges and frees up other mechs to hunt, or to move to flank. It also excels at guarding missile boats and arty mechs for exactly the same reasons And it never hurts that several of the most notable pilots in inner sphere history ran the myomers off one of these suckers. Yen Lo Wang most of all. That mech has been blown to flinders on several occasions, and like its namesake it always comes back. Its a great mech that will always have a place in my stable.

GDN, thanks again for another great video. I'm glad you covered Yen-Lo-Wang. The first time Justin used it on Solaris, nobody knew that he had upgraded from a -10 to a -20. The first mech he faced thought he still had the AC 10, and gave him the first shot. Needless to say, he cored that Griffin with the first salvo

:D I waited until the end for "Yen-Lo-Wang" :D this also is a frequent starter mech you get in HBS Battletech TBS game that I play. I use it as a brawler to grab aggro from the enemies and absorb damage for the rest of my lance :D

I used it as a poor man's missile mech, 1 LRM 15, 1 LRM 10 and 1 LRM 5, 2 tons of reloads and a medium laser to strip evasion when the missile launchers go dry, then it got phased out when i managed to salvage a Griffin and a Shadowhawk

First of all, thank you for your excellent video! The Centurion is an old favorite of mine. The Luxor-D AC/10 is a great weapon, and I favor it heavily. The LRM 10 is my favorite support weapon, as I make heavy use of Indirect Fire! Thank you, again for all your hard work!

4 tons of combined ammo for an LRM-10 and A/C-10 is a very good start for Fire-Support Support. Jamming and Ammo Explosions... Well that is why you stay back.

I love using it as a Brutaler with an ac20... With its ability to take a hit and hatchet a enemy its a terror up close... No one wants a AC20 pointing at them...

Nicely done! Fantastic medium mech with decent weapons and melee ability. A mix Lance of these and shadow hawks are something to be feared in BT.

The centurion is an okay mech with the AC10 being a nice touch. However, I find the Centurion to be a bit too slow in terms of speed.

That Mech should have been called a Gladiator. as its head-helmet design looks way-more like an hoplomachus gladiator helmet, than, anything a Roman Legionary Centurion would wear. Although it actually looks more like a head with a G.B. military, Tropical boonie/ bush hat on, rather than an hoplomachus Galea. But definitely, not Centurion like at all.

The one thing that bothers me. When a design of a Mech or Weapon System becomes rarer and rarer. All because X Factory was destroyed or Y plans went missing. Why the fuck do these morons that run these companies create backups? I mean if you have plants across the freaking galaxy. You have sites that are perfect for Data Centers. You backup your designs and if need be. Plant a Nuke at each site. All to prevent unwanted people from getting away stealing your shit. The level of ignorance in Battletech universe boggles my mind. The level of technology in this universe and yet the basic understanding of being able to backup and secure your data. Geez. I bet they don't even use VPNs. Then, again ComStar likely send out some assassin group or bomb your home from orbit if you dare use a VPN.

@@GrimDarkNarrator it's a beginners mech, a jack of all trades in terms of speed, armor and weaponry, but to me the mech isn't armored enough to play with the big boy mechs (heavy and assault), not fast enough for guerrilla tactics or to pull back from a fight, and it's biggest gun is in one of the easiest places to blow off. Once that autocannon gets shot off, a couple of medium lasers and lrms are all that's left, and for a mid/front line battlemech it's not going to suffice.

@@kindstranger9864 one reason im finding the hunchback a viable option for this with a AC20 hits hard will one-shot any light mech 90% of the time and medium mecks 50% of the time if i focus fire the torso in the battletech game
